Emotions got the better of a Manorbier fisherman who considered biting his ex after finding a man in her kitchen.

Dean John Hamilton, of Dewing Avenue, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Wednesday, November 7.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that Hamilton’s former partner Fiona McBride was drinking wine with her friend Matthew Cobb in her kitchen at 1am on September 30, when she heard a key turn in the door.

“The next thing she knew, the defendant was walking into the kitchen. When he saw Mr Cobb he shouted and became abusive.”

There was a scuffle when Hamilton, 31, went for Mr Cobb and grabbed him around the throat.

All three went to the floor when Miss McBride intervened and there was a moment when Hamilton put his teeth on her arm and appeared to consider biting her, but then thought better of it.

The police were called after Hamilton was forced to the back door and thrown out.

Mr Pritchard-Jones said: “There were no visible injuries, but clearly it is totally unacceptable to go into someone’s house at 1am and assault the occupiers.”

Mark Layton, defending, said Miss McBride and Hamilton had been in a long-term relationship which had come to an end a few days before the incident.

“Mr Hamilton had suffered the loss of a family member the day before, so he was in quite an emotional state. He had a key to the property because he had lived there for many years.”

Mr Layton added that the only person injured during the incident was Hamilton who had suffered a damaged ligament in his leg.

“They were on the floor on top of him, he thought the only way to get them off him was to bite her, but thought better of that.”

The court heard that Hamilton had moved on with his life and was now working as a fisherman.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay £115 in costs and a surcharge.

The bench granted an application for a three-year restraining order.
