A CHRISTMAS song written by a man from Pembrokeshire has been heard on the airwaves in the USA.

Peter Green, 59, of Freystrop has tried his hand at writing a festive song this year called Drink My Wine, which has been included on an album of Christmas songs called the Wonder of Yule (Part one) by independent artists.

“I put the original song together here in my studio in Freystrop in my garage,” said Peter.

“I have a link-up with a studio in Nashville through a website called Music X-ray. On that particular song I had a good recommendation to it.”

Peter’s song was re-recorded by a group of studio musicians in Nashville, including singer Rachel Williams, who has just been signed to the Motown record label.

“In Nashville there’s hundreds of fabulous players all going around looking for gigs and trying to make a living,” said Peter.

“I was lucky to have Rachel this time what with being signed to a label.”

Drink My Wine is about the excitement of someone trying to go to bed before opening presents on Christmas morning.

“To me, I like to make things a bit fun.”

“It’s a good fun song and to do something like that you have to get your kid’s head back on. I say the song is good for small kids and big kids like myself,” said Peter.

The Freystrop musician has been playing in cover bands for more than 30 years and has been song writing seriously for the last six years.

Some of his bands included The Last Chancers and Fur Fox Snake.

Peter’s advice to anyone thinking about writing songs is to practice hard at their craft.

“They should all go out for a couple of years and trying singing in a cover band. A lot of big singers like Taylor Swift cut their teeth first singing covers.

“When you do that, you take a little bit in from every song you play.”

Drink My Wine can be heard on Youtube, iTunes and Spotify.
