Pembrokeshire's two MPs have increased their expenditure by more than £20,000, according to figures released last week.

More than £250,000 has been racked up by Nick Ainger and Stephen Crabb over the past year.

The figures show Carmarthen and South Pembrokeshire MP, Nick Ainger pulled in £129,677, but Preseli Pembrokeshire MP, Stephen Crabb claimed more than £10,000 extra at £140,462.

The figures are divided into nine categories, including the cost of staying away from home, travel expenses and stationary.

For both MPs, staffing costs were the greatest expenses, at £95,551 for Mr Ainger and £77,316 for Mr Crabb.

Both members employ two staff in the constituency and one in Westminster.

Office running costs were a large part of Stephen Crabb's expenses at £29,227, putting him in the top three of MP office expenditure.

Mr Crabb said: "We do run a strong office in the constituency, which not all MPs do. We have a fully staffed office which is open 9am to 5pm, five days a week. I feel it is important to have an accessible and effective office."

Nick Ainger added: "I have got very experienced and hard working staff. Their wages are the rates recommended by the Transport and General Workers Union, I abide by those recommended levels.

"They do a very good job for my constituents and that is where the bulk of the money goes."

Spokesman for the Members Estimate Committee, MP Nick Harvey said: "This money is for the cost of staffing and running their offices in Parliament and in area they represent. Compared to parliamentarians in other countries this represents excellent value for money."
