A YOUTH member from local Haverfordwest gym SAW has become a fully qualified British weightlifting coach.

Thanks to Pembrokeshire Youth Bank Funding Lotty Whalley is now qualified.

Over the winter lockdown, Lotty was studying and has now completed all assessments to be awarded both the level one and level two National Governing Body qualifications.

SAW already has a successful weightlifting club in place where youth and older members meet weekly as a training group.

The sessions are said to have a very positive affect on training progression and also creates a supportive club and friendly environment, greatly benefitting well-being post Covid lockdowns.

The Pembrokeshire Youth bank project is organising a third weekly session, specifically for secondary school age pupils.

SAW is now offering, a six week introduction to weightlifting, with Lotty, as a level two British Weightlifting Coach, leading the sessions, supported by SAW’s academy coaching team.

“Lotty’s added experience from competing and being a member of the Welsh and British Weightlifting squads, provides a fantastic opportunity for secondary age pupils to learn a new sport and to develop their strength,” said director at SAW Simon Roach.

The youth weightlifting class is free for six weeks, with focus on safe lifting technique, mobility, strength development and conditioning.

Sessions are planned to build personal confidence and proficiency in Olympic weightlifting.

To register interest, parents are asked to contact SAW via their office email: office@strengthacademy.wales.
