Early music's 'very own Spice Girls' the Palisander Recorder Ensemble wowed pupils at Ysgol Ger y Llan recently as part of the Fishguard and West Wales International Music Festival 2021.

Around 60 pupils from years 3- 6 participated in a performance and workshop to learn about recorders and how they are played.

"The children and staff absolutely loved listening to these four talented young ladies - they brought the school so much joy and left us with a real feeling of wellbeing for the rest of the day," said headteacher Christa Richardson.

"Having them with us felt like we are getting closer to 'normal' after the past difficult year and a half. It was an amazing opportunity for the children to hear live music and a brilliant way of introducing elements of the Curriculum for Wales' expressive arts area of learning.

"We are so thankful to Palisander and to Gillian Green at Fishguard and West Wales Music Festival for the experience- diolch o galon."

Gillian Green MBE, artistic director of the Fishguard and West Wales Music Festival, added:

"Getting children and young people appreciating classical music and performance is crucial to an awareness of the benefits of music making and develop audiences of the future.

"Many of today's top musicians cite school visits like this as the beginning of their artistic journey towards the concert stage."
