Pembrokeshire County Council has been speaking of why now is the best time to support local food, drink and produce at Haverfordwest Farmers Market.

Held every Friday between 9am and 2pm at Castle Square, the market now hosts more than 20 stallholders selling fresh, local, seasonal produce from Pembrokeshire and its borders.

Produce includes seasonal vegetables and fruit, award-winning beef, pork and lamb, farm-fresh fish and poultry, sourdough and other home-made breads, farmhouses cheeses, homemade cakes and conserves.

Cllr Paul Miller, cabinet member for economy, tourism, leisure and culture, said: "By shopping at our farmers’ markets, not only can you choose from a delicious range of produce, but you will also support local businesses, who have worked so hard - particularly over the last 18 months – and are a valued part of the Pembrokeshire economy."

Joe Welch, market manager and food officer at Pembrokeshire County Council, added: "Haverfordwest was among the few which managed to keep going, albeit on a smaller scale, which was really appreciated by its customers,” she said. “It also introduced a new ordering and collection system which has continued and proved to be very popular.

"We’re also pleased that lots of new customers have started using the market, and welcome many more!"

Cllr Thomas Tudor said: “As the county councillor for the Castle Ward in which the farmers market is held, I would like to congratulate the efforts made by the stall holders in Haverfordwest Farmers Market, who provide fresh produce that spends less time in transit. This means it will get to market faster and fresher.

“Also the market offers a great place to get together and find out more about the local community of Haverfordwest.”

Soon, the Harvest Fayre Market will be held on Friday, October 29, and Christmas Markets will be held on December 3, December 10, December 17 and December 23
