A WOMAN is still in hospital almost a week after last Saturday's tragic paddleboarding incident on the river Cleddau which saw three people lose their lives. 

Three people lost their lives after a group of nine paddleboarders got into trouble on the Cleddau at the weir in Haverfordwest opposite County Hall on October 30. 

Five people were rescued, and one woman was rushed to hospital after being pulled out the water.

Police have released a statement providing an update on the woman’s condition.

"Dyfed-Powys Police can confirm that following the tragic incident in Haverfordwest on Saturday, October 30, a 41-year-old woman remains in hospital. There has been no change to her condition currently.”

The three victims who died have been confirmed as Morgan Rogers, 24, from Cefin Coed, Merthyr Tydfil; Nicola Wheatley, 40, from Pontardulais, Swansea and Paul O’Dwyer, 42, from Sandfields, Port Talbot.

In an extraordinary act of bravery local lad Joel Williams entered to water and dragged a person out onto the banks of the Cleddau where he administered CPR until the emergency services came.

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees of Dyfed-Powys Police said the circumstances of the incident are being thoroughly investigated.

Mr Rees said: "Dyfed-Powys Police received reports of persons in distress to Cleddau river in Haverfordwest shortly after 9am, on Saturday, October 30.

"A group of nine adults from the south Wales area had travelled to Pembrokeshire for a paddle boarding excursion yet had got into difficulties at the weir adjacent to Quay street.

"A significant operation, a rescue operation, was commenced involving resources from Midwest Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Ambulance Service Trust, Dyfed-Powys Police, the Coast Guard and the RNLI.

"Search activity was assisted by helicopters.

"The exact circumstances of the incident are being thoroughly investigated.”

Preseli MP Stephen Crabb used a speech in Parliament to pay tribute to the victims of the paddleboard tragedy.

Mr Crabb had gone on record saying it is right that an official investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy is undertaken.
