Jobcentre staff in Pembrokeshire are gearing up for another busy year in 2025.
After a successful 2024, their focus remains on establishing fruitful partnerships with local businesses to fill vacancies with suitable candidates.
For jobseekers, the work coaches have a variety of support services on offer, including access to training and voluntary work experience.
These, along with specialist services provided by the disability employment advisors, can act as a springboard to a new career.
In addition, partner organisations are ready to assist those who may need to improve their IT skills.
The competition is fierce, with every job application form or CV sent by a jobseeker competing with others for the same job.
Therefore, it is crucial that the application is impressive enough to secure an interview.
Then, the interview skills come into play, competing with others invited to the interview.
The partner organisations are there to polish all these skills to make jobseekers the best of the best and secure that job.
Training courses, often at no cost to the jobseeker, are also regularly on offer to enhance chances of success in the job market.
Pembrokeshire thrives as a well-known tourism and hospitality area.
This means that employers in this sector need to increase their employee numbers to meet the demands of the seasons, especially from early spring, peaking in the summer, and then moving on through autumn to the next Christmas season when employment rates remain relatively high.
In case the hospitality sector is not a long-term career choice, there are many opportunities in care work, retail, construction, administration, cleaning, and more in the county.
There are also partner organisations that offer support for those who have self-employment ideas.
Jobseekers claiming benefits are advised to talk to their Jobcentre work coach about their career possibilities, while those not claiming benefits can look at the Careers Wales website and use that information to seek an appointment with a Careers Wales advisor.
Currently, there are vacancies in virtually every sector, and it is vital that jobseekers know where to look for them.
Opportunities in the green energy sector are expected to grow over the next five or six years.
Fred Hatton, of the Pembrokeshire DWP Employer and Partnership Team, said: "As we enter the year 2025, the opportunities for everyone to become employed and able to provide for themselves and their families has improved year by year since the pandemic.
"It is incumbent on everyone to make those steps that will not only improve an individual’s life, but will also add value to the Pembrokeshire and Wales economy for our and our families long-term future."
Work and Pensions Secretary, Liz Kendall MP, said: "Today’s figures are more evidence that we must Get Britain Working, which is why the Government is relentlessly focused on driving up opportunity and driving down barriers to success in every part of the country.
"With real wages continuing to rise we are working to boost living standards and get the economy growing as part of our Plan for Change by reforming Jobcentres, joining up fragmented local support and guaranteeing that every young person has the chance to be earning or learning."
