There are currently vacancies in almost every job sector in Pembrokeshire, according to the Jobcentre.

With spring approaching, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Jobcentre staff in Pembrokeshire's three offices are preparing to assist jobseekers in finding work and help businesses recruit the staff they need.

They are ready to provide training for jobseekers if required, often at no cost to the individuals.

For those with little or no work-related skills, there is an opportunity to gain valuable experience through voluntary work placements.

These initiatives, along with specialist services from the Disability Employment Advisors, aim to be a stepping stone towards a new career.

The DWP can also host recruitment days and help businesses find suitable applicants for their vacancies.

They encourage employers to get in touch to learn more.

Fred Hatton of the DWP Pembrokeshire Employer and Partnership Team said: "Currently there are vacancies in virtually every sector, whether that is hospitality or health care.

"In particular, we are working with many businesses, particularly those in the tourism and hospitality sectors to fill their vacancies."

He also announced several job fairs planned for March, encouraging people to attend and see what opportunities are available.

These will be held at The Lord Nelson Hotel, Milford Haven, on March 4 from 10am to 2pm; The Haverhub, Haverfordwest, on March 6 from 1pm to 4pm; The Pater Hall, Pembroke Dock, on March 12 from 10am to 2pm; and a Care Jobsfair at The Pembrokeshire Archives, Haverfordwest, on March 27 from 10am to 2pm.

The Care event has been a yearly fixture for five years prior to the pandemic, with last year's post-pandemic event receiving excellent feedback from both jobseekers and employers.

Work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall said: "Since July, wages have continued to grow at pace, putting vital money back in people’s pockets as we work to make work pay and improve living standards for all.

"But these figures also show that too many people are being locked out of work and denied that chance, including those sick and disabled.

"Instead of writing people off and labelling them, we must step up our support.

"Through our Get Britain Working reforms, we are overhauling Jobcentres, guaranteeing every young person the chance to earn or learn and our upcoming Green Paper will bring fundamental change to a broken system that currently pushes people towards welfare instead of work."

Currently, there are 23,000 more jobs being advertised nationally than there were in early 2020, just before the pandemic.
