A molecular biologist has returned to his old school.

Dr Connor Bowen, a former pupil of Milford Haven School, delivered a series of lectures as part of the Dragon Darwin Experience, an education programme celebrating 20 years of partnership between Dragon LNG and the Darwin Centre.

The lectures formed part of the long-running programme, designed to spark curiosity and inspire young people across Pembrokeshire through science education.

Dr Bowen, now a senior molecular biologist at biotechnology company Ingenza, said: "It was a real privilege to return to Milford Haven and the Darwin Centre, where my passion for science first took root.

"Programmes like the Dragon Darwin Experience show young people that science isn’t something distant — it’s happening right here in Pembrokeshire, and it can take you anywhere.

"I hope my story encourages students to stay curious and to follow their interests, wherever they lead."

His talk, titled Microbiology, Mishaps, and Molecules, explored his journey from studying at Dundee University, where he completed both his undergraduate degree and PhD, to his current role at Ingenza.

Two of the sessions were delivered to A-level biology and applied science students at Pembrokeshire College, while a third was held at Milford Haven School for Year 9 pupils.

Samantha Williams, manager of the Darwin Centre, said: "It’s incredibly special to see the full circle of our education programme, a former student and volunteer returning to inspire the next generation.

"The partnership between Dragon LNG and the Darwin Centre has created countless opportunities for young people in Pembrokeshire to explore science in a real and relevant way."

The Dragon Darwin Experience delivers STEM workshops, field experiences, and career inspiration sessions across Pembrokeshire, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world science and industry.

Kate Bassett-Jones, senior lecturer at Pembrokeshire College, said: "The classes loved hearing about Dr Bowen’s journey from Milford Haven into science and academia.

"His enthusiasm and fascinating projects inspired students and helped them see that such futures are possible for them too."

This academic year marks 20 years since the launch of the partnership between Dragon LNG and the Darwin Centre.
