Firefighters from west Wales and across the UK will compete in a test of strength and skill.

They will gather in Swansea for the Welsh Firefighter Challenge on Saturday, June 6, a regional race in the British Firefighter Challenge series.

This annual event sees participants complete a series of demanding physical and mental challenges in full fire kit, designed to showcase the exceptional ability and resilience of those in the fire service.

A spokesman for the event said: "More than a competition, the Welsh Firefighter Challenge is a celebration of community.

"It’s an opportunity for firefighters to support one another, highlight their professionalism and recognise their continued dedication to keeping people safe."

The 2026 challenge will feature eight trials, including a 50-metre run, a 50-metre hose carry, road traffic collision tool carry, and dummy drag.

It will also raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides lifelong support to both serving and retired members of the fire and rescue community.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s community safety team will be on-site, offering safety advice alongside partners such as South Wales Police, the RNLI, Go Safe, Swansea City Council, Swansea Bay University Health Board, Guide Dogs Cymru, and the British Red Cross.

The event will also highlight career opportunities within the fire service, including on-call firefighter roles.

Visitors can find out more about the work of on-call crews and the training and development available.

Last year’s event saw participation from 23 fire and rescue services.

This year’s Welsh Firefighter Challenge will take place at the Swansea Building Society Arena, starting at 9am.

While registration for competitors has now closed, spectators are welcome to attend and support the event.
