New zebra arrives at Pembrokeshire wildlife park after loss of longtime companion
A Pembrokeshire wildlife park has welcomed a new zebra from Yorkshire as staff hope the arrival will provide companionship for a resident animal left alone following the death of his longtime paddock mate.
Two-year-old Ahsoka has arrived at Manor Wildlife Park near Tenby after travelling from Flamingo Land and is now settling into her new home. The young zebra has been introduced to Troy, who has been living without another zebra since the loss of elderly companion Dash.
The arrival was revealed in a recent update shared by the park, which documented Ahsoka's journey to Pembrokeshire and the careful process of introducing the two animals to one another.
Keeper teams spent time helping Ahsoka settle into her new surroundings before allowing the pair to meet for the first time.
The arrival marks a significant moment for the attraction, which is owned by television personality Anna Ryder Richardson and is known as Wales' only walking safari.
Visitors to the park are now able to see Ahsoka as she becomes accustomed to her new environment and gets to know Troy.
Zebras are highly social animals that naturally live in groups in the wild, making companionship an important part of their welfare. While Troy has continued to be cared for by keepers following Dash's death, the arrival of another zebra is expected to provide social interaction and enrichment.
The park's update described excitement among staff as they watched the initial introduction between the pair and observed their early interactions.
For regular visitors, Ahsoka's arrival represents a fresh chapter for the zebra enclosure after a difficult period following Dash's passing.
The newcomer has travelled hundreds of miles from Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire to begin her new life in Pembrokeshire.
As with any introduction between large animals, keepers are expected to closely monitor how the pair interact as they become familiar with one another.
The move has also sparked excitement among wildlife park followers, with some already speculating about whether the new arrival could eventually lead to zebra foals being born at the attraction in future.

While there has been no suggestion that breeding is imminent, the prospect of baby zebras has generated enthusiasm among supporters of the park. The wildlife park itself posed the question of whether there could one day be baby zebras following Ahsoka's arrival.
Manor Wildlife Park is home to a range of exotic and endangered species and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Alongside its zebras, guests can see animals including rhinos, tigers, wallabies and red pandas.
For now, however, attention is firmly on Ahsoka and Troy as Pembrokeshire's newest resident settles into life at one of the county's best-known visitor attractions.
