About 300 people have enjoyed a sneak preview of a major new Pembrokeshire leisure attraction.

Blue Lagoon, the £10million waterpark at the Bluestone holiday village, opened its doors for a special VIP day last week.

Blue Lagoon features wild waves, flumes, bubble pools, a lazy river and more, all housed in an upturned coracle.

Blue Lagoon manager Scott Sinclair hailed the day as a success, but accepted there were some teething problems, including tiles being dislodged in a small side pool.

He said: “I think the day was a success and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves, but it was the very first time Blue Lagoon has been used by a large number of people, so it’s also fair to say that the day highlighted a few issues that will be resolved before the official opening.

“The feedback we gained on the day was overwhelmingly positive, but it was also constructive. Such feedback is very valuable to us, so I’d like to thank everybody who has helped make Blue Lagoon even better.”

Blue Lagoon is believed to be the only waterpark in the world heated by biomass technology.

Mr Sinclair added: “Blue Lagoon is a remarkable facility that combines state-of-the-art technology, innovative design and environmental responsibility.

“But, Blue Lagoon is, first and foremost about fun. It’s just that here, your fun comes with a clean conscience.”

Blue Lagoon is the showpiece facility at the Bluestone holiday village, which welcomes its first guests this month.

Blue Lagoon also welcomes day visitors, and around 250,000 people a year are expected to sample the aquatic attractions.

Bluestone chief executive William McNamara said: “Blue Lagoon is a key element of the Bluestone experience, but it’s also a significant attraction in its own right.

“As a year-round, all-weather facility, it complements Pembrokeshire’s existing roster of leisure attractions and we’ve developed a range of money-saving deals, offers and promotions that will make it more attractive still.”

* Entry to Blue Lagoon costs £10.45 in low season and £12.95 in high season (children under four free). Family tickets (four people aged four and above) are £45 in high season and £36 in low season.
