Troops returning from Afghanistan wil be honoured at a special parade in St Davids today (Wednesday).

A squadron of around 50 to 60 soldiers and officers will be welcomed home as they march through the city from The Grove to the Cross Square at midday.

The Regimental Band will accompany the 14 Signals Regiment soldiers, and the salute will be taken outside of the City Hall.

On Cross Square Mayor of St Davids, Cllr David Chant, will present medals to the soldiers, some of which have completed several deployments in Afghanistan.

A spokesman for St Davids City Council said: “The Council wishes to create an opportunity for the community to thank the returning soldiers for their personal efforts and commitment to what is a very difficult task.

“It would be excellent to have as many people as possible lining the streets by way of thanks, independent of the political circumstances that have determined their role.”

After the parade the City Council will provide refreshments for the soldiers at The Grove Hotel.
