September updates-getting started!

Sunday 14th September 2008: The past week I’ve been running steadily, 4 miles on Tuesday, 6 on Thursday and 12 miles including a loo stop this morning on quite a hilly course near home. Got overtaken though by a group of cyclists although they weren’t much faster uphill! Next main target is the Dale half marathon in two weeks, I’m not too bad for distance but lacking in speed so I’ll have to work on this (ie. buy a scooter). The Dale half is quite a hilly (tough) half marathon so around 1.45 would be fine and would give me a chance of sub 1.40 in the Cardiff half 3 weeks later (in my dreams).

Sunday 28th September 2008: Managed to complete the Dale Half Marathon in 1hr 46:39 seconds. A little slower than hoped but … and here come the excuses..it was hot and I’m sure that the hills were steeper this year-must be some seismic earthquake activity in the Marloes area subduction zone! I must admit I was a little put out when a kiddy in one of those police pedal cars overtook me in Dale village. At least all limbs intact and apart from soreness no major pains. Nevertheless a really enjoyable occasion- thanks to Pembs Triathlon Club, officials and all the marshalls along the scenic route. Normally you can knock off about 4-5 minutes for the projected time in Cardiff. So, on to Cardiff in three weeks!
