Dear Editor
I was glad to read about the opening of Surehaven 16 bed unit, next to the South Pembrokeshire Hospital, Pembroke Dock, for patients suffering mental illness (Western Telegraph, March 11th).
In the 1980s I suffered a nervous breakdown and had to go all the way to St David’s hospital in Carmarthen for treatment, but now patients can be treated in Pembrokeshire.
After discharge I walked daily to Haven Way day hospital and benefited greatly from treatment by visiting doctors and caring dedicated members of staff, to whom I owe a debt of gratitude.
Pembrokeshire Mind also does sterling work.
Pembrokeshire should be proud of the treatment and facilities offered in the mental health field, both in Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest.
