Police in Fishguard are investigating an incident of criminal damage at the Newport Sands car park.

Over the weekend a barrier erected around the car park was destroyed and defaced by vandals.

Sandbags were slashed, signs defaced and barriers and fences damaged.

The car park is owned by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

A spokesman for the park authority said: “We have recently repaired the surface of the car park and we put up temporary barriers to avoid it being used for a short time while the new surface had the chance to settle.

“We were extremely disappointed to hear about the damage and we will be working closely with Dyfed-Powys Police to prevent this type of incident from occurring again.

The car park is expected to re-open before Easter.
