Tenby fire crews were out in force once again yesterday (Monday) morning, as more heavy rain made roads in the east of the county impassable.

Commuters travelling on the B4318 between Gumfreston and Tenby found themselves stuck in flood water. At 7.05 Tenby crew rescued two vehicles, both containing one person, from the flood water.

They were called back to the same area just over an hour later and this time rescued a total of four vehicles and six people from the flood water.

They were called out to the nearby Penally to St Florence Road at 11.05am. They used a winch to pull one woman and her car from the flooded road.

Tenby county councillor Michael Williams is now asking Pembrokeshire County Council to take action to alleviate flooding on the highway between Gumfreston Hill and Heywood Lane, Tenby, which frequently becomes impassable to traffic during a period of heavy rain.

He is asking for an initial study followed by a capital sum allocated for work in the next financial year.

"The situation over the last weekend has made life difficult for many who regularly use this road, and it urgently needs addressing, " he has told county transport chief Ian Westley.

"I had cause to travel to Pembroke Dock last Saturday evening, and the amount of traffic using The Ridgeway was amazing, due to the diversion.

"This road is not much more than a county lane, and with such heavy traffic use, becaomes quite dangerous."

Councillor Williams has now suggested that the matter is taken forward to next month's  county council meeting as an agenda item.
