Dear Editor

Please, let’s bring to light an issue that has literally been ‘burning away’ for the last three years.

Anyone in the Milford Haven area will be familiar with the oil refineries lighting up the sky at night. The energy consumption and cost must be significant, so common sense and good practice ensure that during daylight hours the electricity used and associated ‘carbon emissions’ are cut, by simply turning the lights off.

However, in the last three years no such initiative has been taken at the South Hook LNG terminal. All the energy consumed illuminating the huge terminal by night is doubled during the day. If you want something to make your ‘blood boil’, take a closer look the next time you are passing. Hundreds of floodlights are never switched off.

Surely this is not a good advert for ‘environmental best practice’ from a major supplier of energy to the UK.
