County Cricket: Division Two Hook (157 for 1) beat Fishguard (156 for 8)

A splendid undefeated century by in-form all rounder Jamie Phelps saw Hook maintain their place at the top of the table and keep opponents Fishguard firmly pinned to bottom spot.

Fishguard batted first and managed a reasonable 156 for 8 but such is the power of Phelps that he struck 17 fours and a six in his 111 not out, his 50 coming from only 35 deliveries and his ton from just 75 balls.

Put in to bat first, Fishguard had Jonathan Twigg as top scorer with 56 before he was run out, his 50 coming from 103 balls and including six fours, with Sean O'Connor (16) and Dave Haynes (17) providing support. Darren John and Alan Proud also managed double figures alongside 25 extras.

Ross Martin (3 for 26) and Keith James (2 for 15) were the mainstays of the Hook bowling attack.

Hook lost Brennan Lay, run out for 14, but by then Phelps was in full swing with the bat and with Ross Martin joining him on 21 not out there was denying Hook another win, despite the fact that Fishguard tried eight bowlers in a vain attempt at dislodging two very strong Hook batsmen at the top of their form.

Umpires: Arthur Brady and Dai Morris. Scorer: Joy James (Hook).
