Some residents of Penbanc, Fishguard, are at loggerheads with certain senior Pembrokeshire County Council officers over plans for the new school on the site of the FE Centre.

Ruth Mills, a spokesman for a group of residents, claims that Roger Barrett Evans, director of development, has re-submitted the planning application for the new school without proper consultation.

A meeting was held last Wednesday, at the request of Ruth Mills and organised by Councillor Sian James. Its aim was to address the issues, answer questions and inform Penbanc residents of the current situation. But a Western Telegraph reporter was excluded, despite being invited by several residents.

Cllr Sian James said: "I feel confident that we have a constructive dialogue with residents and I can assure them they will not be denied opportunities for consultation in the future." Ruth Mills said: "I am gravely concerned by the council's practices and its senior officers with regard to this application.

"Residents do not object to the new school but do remain concerned about the impact upon traffic using Penbanc. "Promises made by senior officers at a meeting in County Hall in October seem not to have been kept and the planning application has now been resubmitted without proper consultation with local residents."

A council spokesman said: "The application for road access to a new school in Fishguard was put in abeyance until a Traffic Impact Assessment was completed. The application has since been reactivated and the authority is consulting with the statutory bodies on its effect. "Once these views have been received, the council will consult with Penbanc residents, as promised, before any decisions are made."
