AS the race for Westminster hots up, national bookmakers Ladbrokes have put Labour just ahead of the Tories for the marginal Preseli Pembrokeshire seat.

The betting stands at 4/6 Labour, 11/10 Conservative, 40/1 Plaid Cymru and 50/1 Liberal Democrat. But there are no odds available for the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency, which means that it is regarded as a safer seat.

In the Western Telegraph's own General Election telephone fun poll, the results this week were: Plaid 29%; Conservative 27%; UKIP 20%; Labour 12%; Liberal Democrat 10%; Green 2%; Others 0%.

When nominations closed last Tuesday, candidates listed for the Preseli Pembrokeshire constituency were: Patricia Bowen (Socialist Labour Party); Jim Carver (UK Independence Party); Stephen Crabb (Conservative); Sue Hayman (Labour); Matthew Mathias (Plaid Cymru); Molly Scott Cato (Wales Green Party); Dewi Smith (Liberal Democrat).

In the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency, the candidates are: Nick Ainger (Labour) (sitting MP); John Allen (Liberal Democrat); Alexander Daszak (Legalise Cannabis Alliance); John Dixon (Plaid Cymru); Josie MacDonald (UK) Independence Party); David Morris (Conservative); Nick Turner.

Ceredigion candidates are: Simon Thomas (Plaid Cymru) (sitting MP); Mark Williams (Liberal Democrat); John Harrison, (Conservative); Alun Davies (Labour); Dave Bradney (Green Party); Iaian Sheldon (Veritas); Sid Whitworth (Legalise Cannabis Party). o See next week's Western Telegraph for political profiles and questionnaires.
