Mallards Reach Equestrian Training Centre, based in Camrose, Haverfordwest, is expanding by opening a new premises in England to extend the opportunities of the business.

Formed five years ago, with help from Pembrokeshire Lottery, Andrew and Amy James saw a gap in the market to produce competition horses for eventing and working hunter ponies for the show ring.

During their time in business, they have both achieved great results and are progressing well towards occupying the higher rankings in their field.

Currently, Mallards Reach has 26 horses in for training, from young breakers to older more advanced competition horses.

Andrew will be starting the season with 12 horses to event, some for sale, but several being brought on for owner-breeders to enjoy their success, and promote their breeding lines.

The expansion to a purpose-built equestrian unit on an estate in Berkshire will enable Andrew to be more central for selling horses, and for travelling to the events.

They have already travelled 1,200 miles this season - a strain on resources. The location near Newbury is ideal for all equine activities and more accessible for many buyers. Andrew hopes to maintain his links with the equine community in Pembrokeshire, as it could be a great advantage for other local horses to be based more centrally to compete, add value to their animals and be available for sale.

Andrew, now 23 years old, is focused on competing at the highest level, with Badminton the aim. Last year, two of his advanced horses completed the Blair three star three-day event, finishing 18th and 20th, sound and fit. This season, Bramham and Burghley are the aim.

Amy is very supportive to Andrew in his new venture, as it will leave many more stables at home to fill, as she continues to develop her side of the business. Visit our website to view horses currently for sale, www.mallardsreach.com.
