UNDER the sizzling sun the Pembroke Dock Harlequins made it a hat-trick of successes after converting their London Road ground into a carnival extravaganza at the weekend. Over 3,000 people joined the newly promoted club for their annual carnival, making it the most successful to date.

"The atmosphere down on the pitch was great," said carnival committee member, Phil Lynch. "You don't see it much these days, but there was real community spirit there on Saturday."

After the parade, which featured six vintage cars and was led by the Milford Haven Sea Cadet Band, made its way to the pitch, crowds gathered to enjoy a host of events late into the afternoon.

Twenty-foot high Shrek, a huge success at the Llangwm scarecrow competition, was a massive attraction on the day, with entertainment from bouncy castles to Bongo Clive and fire breathers to football proving popular as well.

Demonstrations from the Fire Brigade, Collegiate of Knights Templar and dance groups Star Liners and Dansation, ensured the town's rugby club scored yet another hit with the crowds.

"The carnival committee put a lot of hard work in,' Phil said. "But at the end of the day it's well worth it, bringing Pembroke Dock alive."
