The Right Honourable Lord Morris of Aberavon QC has taken over as Lord-Lieutenant for Dyfed after the retirement of Sir David Mansel Lewis at the end of October.

Lord Morris' home is in Llandysul, where his wife Margaret was born. Lord Morris himself was born in Capel Bangor, Abersytwyth, and went to University College, Aberystwyth, and Caius College, Cambridge.

He was called to the Bar in 1954, was appointed a Bencher of Grays Inn in 1985 and was a Recorder of the Crown Court between 1982 and 1997.

His wife Margaret was a member of the Inner London Magistrates Bench for many years. The couple have three grown-up daughters.

Lord Morris was a Member of Parliament for Aberavon from 1959 to 2001 and was created a life peer as Lord Morris of Averavon.

He held many front bench posts, including that of Attorney General for England and Wales and Attorney General for Northern Ireland. He was Welsh Secretary from 1974-1979 and officially opened the Cleddau Bridge on May 23rd, 1975.

He is currently Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan and president of the London Welsh Trust. He is also a member of the Council of the Prince of Wales Trust (Cymru).
