CD review. The Martini Henry Rifles - SuperBastard
Hooray! Something original and interesting plopped into my speakers today.
The Martini Henry Rifles (TMHR) are a treat for all you noiseniks out there. They certainly threw this muppet around the room with their Albini-PIL-Superchunk-Pussy Galore howls of pure pop noise fury.
There are enough ideas here to keep one writing reviews for a month and not glance sideways for a second.
Where TMHR triumph, over contemporaries from any genre, is in their sheer conviction, belief in themselves and refusal to give an ounce of slack - something that so many other bands succumb to. And I abhor nothing more than a lazy band that finds easy routes to ply its trade.
This sizzles throughout, even the more experimental elements contain nuggets that lesser acts can only dream of carrying off convincingly.
A seminal work, I dare you to like it.
