Mrs C. Bentley Narberth The funeral took place on Wednesday, August 17th of Mrs Christine Bentley, who died on August 4th. Chris Bentley was a mother and grandmother, wife and partner, artist and gardener, walker and cyclist, debater and witty observer. To all these aspects of her life, Chris brought an immense capacity to love, and compassion. Chris arrived in Pembrokeshire with her family in 1988, some time after the tragic death of her 12-year-old son, Nicky. Together with John, she set about restoring the Barn at Crinow, and establishing his chiropractic business there. To the end, Chris continued to support John in his work. Chris loved people. She enjoyed discussion and debate, and friendly meetings in the High Street with those she knew. She was interested in what moves and motivates people, and to this end studied astrology and psychology, gaining a grade A at A Level in the latter just a few years ago. Chris was very bright, with an IQ of 159. Friends and family can testify to the acute incisiveness of her observations, which could be funny and sharp, and unsettling. Chris was a master of the subtle one-liner, and quick on the draw. She could detect insincerity at a hundred paces and didn't suffer fools gladly. As an artist, Chris was both talented and diverse in her abilities. She exhibited her work in local galleries and took commissions. Her love of animals was also celebrated in her work. She dedicated her life to that which was most important to her - her family: Lisa and Liam, her brother David, John and Ken, and Ken's own children. Loyal, hard-working and diligent, Chris led a contented life, enriched by enjoyment of the simple things. She loved nature, and thrived on walking and painting in her favourite parts of Pembrokeshire. Chris dealt with her illness with the same quiet strength and thoughtfulness that supported her during the loss of her son. Chris was able to talk about her situation with a frankness and humour that shed light on a usually dark area. Refusing to be beaten by her prognosis, Chris carried on her day-to-day life with gusto, defying the intrusion of pain and discomfort. She treasured these last few months with Ken and the family more than ever, and gained huge comfort from the abundance of love that surrounded her at home. There were family flowers only, but donations may be made for Cancer Research UK c/o funeral director W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Limited, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, SA70 8AB.
