GYMNAST Harry Owen, from Begelly, a pupil at Greenhill School, was busy on international duty recently, in Cardiff against Scotland and Ireland.

It was a successful day for Wales with the Welsh U13 and U17 men's teams winning gold medals and a special day for Harry, because he became Celtic Cup international champion in the individual U13 event.

As one of Britain's top young gymnasts Harry has also been called up to the men's Welsh team squad in preparation for the Commonwealth Games to be held in India in 2010.

This Commonwealth squad has been training at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, under the direction of top Welsh and British coaches.

Harry's selection for the senior squad has been as a result of his recent achievements at Welsh, British and international competitions at U12, U13 and U14 level.

Harry has represented Wales on six occasions and each time has been financially supported by Pembrokeshire County Council with a travelling and accommodation grant, but as his national and international commitments increase, a commercial and/or private sponsor will be needed.
