MR E. J. EVANS PEMBROKE The death occurred on Wednesday, April 5th, at ward 10, Withybush Hospital, of Emrys John Evans, of Pembroke. Emrys was from Abertillery but since 1979 had lived in Pembroke where he met Dilys and married in 1986. He was a plant operator until his retirement in 1998. He leaves to mourn Dilys (wife); Annette and Denise (sisters-in-law); Dorothy and Geoffrey, Jean and Gerald, Jenny and Lloyd (aunties and uncles), and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. The service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium was conducted by Rev Martin Cox and Ron Gwyther. Unable to attend were Olwen Davies, (sister); Mrs B. Roderick (sister-in-law) and Tim Blundsden (nephew) and Hayden and Sylvia Eynon (friends). There were family flowers only with donations in lieu to ward 10, Withybush Hospital and Monkton Priory Church to be sent to John Roberts and son, funeral director, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.

MRS E.R.M.WOOD PEMBROKE DOCK The funeral took place at St John's Church, Pembroke Dock, on Friday of Edna Ruth May Wood of Brewery Street, Pembroke Dock, who died in ward 10 at Withybush Hospital on April 14th, aged 77. She had been in hospital for a week. A native of Pembroke Dock, Mrs Wood worked in her earlier years at Idris Evans the fruiterers in Bush Street, continuing her duties as a lollipop lady at Albion Square until her retirement in July 1999. She had been a lollipop lady for 38 years and was popular with generations of school children. Her life centred on her large family and her second 'family' at Albion Square School and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She leaves to mourn her husband Ray Wood, her sons and daughters Lesley, Robert, Stephen, Annette and Andrew, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law Paul, Debbie, Michael and Deryl, grandchildren Natasha, Natalie, Daniel, Lindsay, Robert, Claire, Simon and Joanne, great grandchildren David, San, Leighton, Shannon, Nathan, Garrin, Iestyn and Seren, brothers and sisters-in-law Billy and Margaret, Alfred and Jean, sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Colin, Dorothy and Vincent, brothers-in-law Leslie and Brian, Doug Wood, nephews and nieces, close friends and neighbours too numerous to mention. The funeral service at St John's Church, which was followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery, was conducted by Rev Andrew Davies and the bearers were Robert, Stephen and Andrew Wood (sons), Simon Wood (grandson), Michael James and Paul Brockway (sons-in-law). A poem was read by granddaughter Natalie. There were family flowers only but donations in lieu for ward 10 at Withybush Hospital may be sent c/o Graham Thomas, 34, Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6UR. The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Pembroke Dock.

MRS A. E. YEO SAUNDERSFOOT The funeral took place at St Issells' Church, Saundersfoot, on April 13th of Alice Elizabeth Yeo, who died at Pencoed Care Home, Wooden, on April 5th, aged 88. A native of Cardiff, Mrs Yeo was a secretary at Halliwells in Stratford-on-Avon during the war, later working in a similar capacity at County Hall, Cardiff and Sherman's before becoming medical secretary at St Davids Hospital, Cardiff, until she retired in 1977. Among her interests were dancing, reading, crosswords, listening to talking books in her latter years and enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending Carew Memorial Hall luncheon club. Predeceased by her husband Tom Yeo, she is survived by her children Mike and his wife Val, Michelle and husband Steve, Estelle and husband Dennis, brother Len and wife Nesta and sister-in-law Verna, grandchildren Helen and partner Andrew, Sarah and husband Pete, Melanie and husband Paul, Tyrone, Scott and partner Suzanne, great grandchildren Tia, Oscar and Harry, nieces Lynne and husband David, Mary and husband Kevin, nephew Andrew and wife Helen. The funeral service at St Issells' Church, which was followed by interment in the churchyard, was conducted by Canon Michael Butler and the bearers were Graham Thomas, John Jones, Arthur Evans and Gavin Wright. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Calibre, a charity providing reading books for the blind, to be sent to the funeral director Stewart Treharne of E. C. Thomas and Son, Green Plains, Stepaside, Narberth, SA67 8LT. MR K. H. RAWLINGS PEMBROKE The death occurred on April 4th of Kenneth Henry Rawlings, St Martin's Road, Pembroke. He was 80. Mr Rawlings had spent the last six years at the Meadows Nursing Home, Johnston, where he died. Born in Golden Grove, Llandeilo, Ken spent his early years in Tenby and Haverfordwest, where he attended Haverfordwest Grammar School. The family moved to the Salutation Inn, Monkton, and he married Sylvia in 1962 at Monkton Priory Church. Ken worked for many years at Hussey Egan and Pickmere and enjoyed gardening in his spare time. There was a large attendance at his funeral at Monkton Priory Church, Pembroke, on Thursday, April 13th and this was followed by burial at Monkton Cemetery. Officiating was Rev Martin Cox. Left to mourn are Sylvia (wife); Lilian and John (sister and brother-in-law); Joan (sister); Susan and Keith (niece and partner); Gareth (nephew); June (niece); Roland (nephew); Janet (niece); Kathryn (niece), Sheila (sister-in-law); David and Mildred (brother-in-law and sister-in-law); Lyn (nephew); Jayne and John (niece and partner); Stephen and Juliette (nephew and partner); Michael and Jen (nephew and partner) together with numerous cousins, friends and neighbours, former colleagues and matron and staff from the Meadows Nursing Home. The bearers were Stephen and Michael Hughes, Gareth Brinn and Roland Lewis (nephews). Unable to attend were Betty and Gerald, of High Wycombe. There were family flowers only with donations for The Meadows Nursing Home to John Roberts and Son, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

MRS J. JAMES JOHNSTON Jean James, of 24 The Close, Johnston, died on April 12th, aged 68. She died at Withybush Hospital following a sudden illness 13 weeks previously. Having grown up in Johnston, Jean took a series of local jobs, latterly at Maureen's Hairdressers where she worked until she retired in 1980. Jean was one of the founder members of Johnston Sunshine Club, formed 37 years ago, where she was treasurer. She loved baking and doing sewing alterations for many people over many years. Jean was a regular donor to the National Blood Transfusion Service, donating a total of 71 pints of blood. She loved socialising and was an active member of the village and outlying community. She would always make time to help anybody and was held in the highest esteem. This was evident in the overwhelming number of people who attended the two services. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Jean was a longstanding member of Johnston Mothers' Union and a life-long member of St Peter's Church, Johnston, where she had held the post of people's warden since March 1997 and where Rev Jane Goupillion, Rector Gil Hooper (retired) and Canon Likeman conducted her funeral service on April 20th. The service was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. John Percey (cousin), Steven Mills (god son), David Warlow (family friend) and Keith Jenkins (neighbour) acted as bearers. Jean was predeceased by her husband Norman in August 2002 and leaves to mourn Neil and Wendy (son and daughter-in-law), Andrea and Philip (daughter and son-in-law), Ceri, Geraint, Elinor and Daniel (grandchildren). The principal mourners were Neil and Wendy (son and daughter-in-law), Andrea and Philip (daughter and son-in-law), Ceri, Geraint, Gareth, Elinor and Daniel (grandchildren), Brian and Rita, Hughie and June (brothers and sisters-in-law), Diane (sister), Mrs A. Percey, Mrs M. Rees, (aunties) and cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, Mr and Mrs Roy James, Mr and Mrs Bryn James (brothers-in-law and spouses), Peggy West, Barbara Mills and all their families - plus many other family, friends and neighbours. Unable to attend were Mrs L. Phillips (sister), Mr A. Aldave (brother-in-law), Mrs F. Thomas and Mrs P. James (sister-in-law). Donations in lieu of flowers for a memorial in Jean's memory at St Peter's Church or the Paul Sartori Foundation may be sent to Mrs K. Bassett, 20 Bulford Close, Johnston, Haverfordwest. Funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd of Milford Haven.

MRS E. BECKETT MILFORD HAVEN The funeral took place at St Mary's Church, Hakin, and Parc Gwyn Crematorium on April 26th of Elizabeth Beckett of Wellington Road, Hakin, Milford Haven, who died aged 89 at her home on April 20th. A native of Milford Haven, Mrs Beckett was the widow of Alfred Beckett and leaves to mourn her son and daughter-in-law Terry and Margaret, grandson Jeremy and partner Rachel, granddaughter Rachel and partner James, great grandson Sam, brothers Jimmy, Albert and Billy Clark, sister Megan Day and nephews and nieces too numerous to mention. The service in St Mary's Church, which was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, was conducted by Rev Alan Chadwick and the bearers were Jeremy and Rachel Beckett, James and Rachel Widdicombe. The mourners were the immediate family. There are family flowers only but donations in lieu for Macmillan Cancer Support may be sent c/o Mr R, Butterworth, Hon Treasurer, 3 Cleggar Park, Lamphey, Pembroke. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven. MR G.L. MORGAN PEMBROKE DOCK The funeral of Gwilym Leslie Morgan, of Bellevue Terrace, Pembroke Dock, was held on April 27th. He died, aged 84, at home on April 17th. Les was born in Swansea, the eldest son of Gwilym and Violet Emily Morgan. At 17 he came to Pembroke Dock seaplane base and in September 1939, he was sent to the British Expeditionary Force in France. He returned to Pembroke Dock where he met Kay Sherlock. In 1942, he was posted to Prince Edward Island, Canada, where he became an instructor at the RAF General Reconnaissance School. He came back to the Dock in September 1944 and married Kay at St John's Church. In 1945, he travelled to Singapore and then to a port a few miles from Hiroshima in Japan where he witnessed the effects of the atom bomb. In January 1948, he came home to Little Rissington, near Bourton-on-the-Water until his demob in June 1948. He and Kay lived briefly in Bristol until he took up a post with the Ministry of National Insurance (now the Benefit Agency) in Carmarthen in 1950 and set up home with six-month-old John in Llanddarog. Kay and Les became actively involved in village life, helping to run the scouts and cubs, while Les was church secretary for 15 years. Les transferred to head office in London in 1972 where he worked for Barbara Castle and her young private secretary Jack Straw. They lived in Hackney, where Les stayed until his early retirement from the civil service in 1982. Les and Kay moved back to Pembroke Dock to Bellevue Terrace. They loved the beaches of Angle and Freshwater West and made their home and garden a mass of colour and warmth. Kay died in 1997, after years of ill health. Les felt her loss deeply and busied himself with his work at the Pembroke Cancer Support Centre, where he found comfort and friendship in his later years. Les was devoted to his wife Kay, son John, daughter-in-law Elizabeth and granddaughter Amy. He is survived by his three brothers Cyril, Eric and Ken who he loved equally. His funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on April 27th, conducted by Rev. Hugh Michael of Zion Chapel. Principal mourners were Dr John Morgan (son), Elizabeth Morgan (daughter-in-law), Amy Morgan (granddaughter), Ken Morgan (brother), Eric and Kathleen Morgan (brother and sister-in-law), Michael Morgan (nephew), Brian Sherlock (brother-in-law), Edward and Hugh Sherlock (nephews). Funeral arrangements were carried out by E.C. Thomas and Son of Pembroke Dock with family flowers only and donations for Pembroke Cancer Support Group c/o Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock SA72 6UR.

MRs G.d. holliday west yorkshire The death occurred on April 13th at Dewsbury District Hospital of Gloria Doris Holliday, of Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. She was 67. She was the loving wife of Trevor; mother of Shirley, grandmother of Robert and Simon and their partners Katie and Kim and baby Tyler; sister of Liz, Viv, Peter, Angela, Bill and Gill; sister-in-law of Vince, Terry, Bill, Jan and Chris. She was also a devoted aunt. The funeral took place on April 25th in Heckmondwike.
