A new range of ‘healthy’ sausages will be on the menu at Pembrokeshire schools next term after Preseli Gold Sausages won the two-year contract to supply meat products to the local authority.

The Fishguard-based company, run by husband and wife team Peter and Beverley Hughes, spent 12 months developing the range that includes a sausage low in salt/sodium.

It has already won a Welsh National Gold Award – one of 200 gold and 50 UK national awards the company has won in the past ten years.

Mr Hughes has been a butcher for 30 years but began specialising in sausage making ten years ago, and the company now makes two miles of sausages every week.

The £130,000 annual contract from Pembrokeshire County Council means Preseli Gold Sausages will supply meat products to 130 outlets over the next two years including schools, care homes and day centres.

Mr Hughes said: “We are a small company passionate about producing good healthy food and we ensure everything is sourced from reliable and reputable outlets. It’s great news to win this contract and gives us a solid foundation for growth.”
