A PIONEERING school council in Pembrokeshire has staged another first.
Members of the Tenby Family of Schools Council – the first of its kind in Pembrokeshire – were invited to County Hall to meet the county’s director of education, Graham Longster.
It was the first time that a Pembrokeshire school council has met with a director of education.
The youngsters were invited to County Hall by Councillor Huw George, cabinet member for children and young people.
“School councils are all about enabling youngsters to have their say and discuss issues that affect them in school,“ said Councillor George.
“At their meeting, the youngsters were able to talk directly to the director about their concerns and were in turn able to learn from him about his role in the county.”
The Tenby Family of Schools comprises pupil representatives from ten local primary schools, along with pupils from Greenhill Secondary School.
Representatives meet once a term to share experiences and discuss issues affecting them - and then report back to their school councils.
