THE EUROPEAN election candidates for Wales have been announced this afternoon, with the count due to take place in Pembrokeshire on May 26.
The purpose of the elections is to choose members of the European Parliament who will be sent to represent all of Wales in Brussels (and Strasbourg), either for the next five years or until the UK leaves the European Union via the Brexit process.
In the UK, candidates are chosen in a proportional representation system called the party list, where each party is given a number of seats based upon how many votes they receive.
As a European region, Wales has four seats in the European Parliament.
