MR J. M. DENNING

HIGH WYCOMBE (formerly of Saundersfoot)

John Michael du Pré Denning died at Wycombe General Hospital recently. Previously of Saundersfoot, where he was a well-known accountant, Mr Denning was 74.

A funeral service was held at Chilterns Crematorium, Amersham, on Friday, July 10th.

The principal mourners are: Judith Denning (wife), Mary Rust (sister), Gareth and Sibyl Beaumont-Denning (son and daughter-in-law), Jackie Hadley (daughter), Joanna and Frank Alexander (daughter and son in law), Trisha Derrick and Peter Till (daughter and partner), Naomi Denning and Meghan Beaumont (granddaughters), and Douglas and Nicola Mackenzie Dodds, Pippa Rom and Chris Jones (step-children) as well as other family members and friends too numerous to mention.

Archie, Lucia, Finlay, Evan, Emily, Sam, Elliot and Léna (grandchildren) and step-children Jacqueline and Mark are also left to mourn.

There were family flowers only. Donations in lieu, if desired, may be made to the Gurkha Welfare Trust, c/o Beacon Funeral Services, 27 Rose Avenue, Hazlemere, Bucks, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr. L. J. A. Griffiths

Haverfordwest

The death of Leslie James Arthur Griffiths occurred at Withybush Hospital on June 23rd. He was 81.

Born in Rudbaxton, Leslie spent the rest of his life in Haverfordwest. After losing his leg in an accident in 1963 Leslie worked at RNAD Trecwn until his retirement. Leslie and his wife Gwenith also ran the family shop in Prendergast.

After his retirement he became an active member of Withybush Hospital League of Friends and the Wolfscastle over-60s club, until his death.

The funeral took place on July 3rd, at St Michael's Church, Rudbaxton, and was followed by interment at City Road Cemetery.

Canon Geoffrey Gwyther officiated. He was assisted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon and Rev Tom Owen.

The bearers were David Griffiths, Shaun Dvorak, Brian Dvorak and Rory Robinson (grandsons and grandson-in-law).

Leslie was predeceased by his wife Gwenith in 2006. Principal mourners were: Gillian and Tom Dvorak (daughter and son-in-law); Jayne Bunston (daughter); Michael Griffiths (son); David and Angela (grandson and fiancé), Julie and David (granddaughter and husband), Beverley and Rory (granddaughter and fiancé), Daniel (grandson), Shaun and Kelly (grandson and wife), Christopher and Brian (grandsons), David-Joseph, Liam, Hayley, Zachery, Katlin, Meghan, Ruthie, Callum, Madison, Emily, Paige, Kai and Jack (great-grandchildren); Len and Anita Griffiths (brother and sister-in-law), Len and Jocelyn Thomas (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), together with other relatives, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only, with donations for Withybush Hospital League of Friends to Bryn Perkins, 2 Thurston Lane, Sardis, SA73 1LA.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.

Mrs W. G. M. Heath

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred on May 14th of Winifred Grace Mary Heath (Winnie) of Llanion, Pembroke Dock. She was 87.

She was a housewife, and formerly a shop assistant at Taylor’s Ironmongers, Pembroke Dock and laterly Hunts Bakery, Pembroke Dock. She was also a lifelong member of St Teilo’s Church and Ladies Guild.

She was predeceased by Edgar Heath (Bill) in 2005.

Family left to mourn are: Doris Evans (sister, unable to attend); Audrey Naish (sister-in-law); Alan Hyde and Nigel Naish (nephews); Julie Naish and Clive Cole (niece and fiance); Jason and Jonathan Hyde (great nephews); Nicola and Peter Hannaway (great niece and husband); Joanna Hyde (great niece), plus numerous cousins and friends.

The funeral was held at St Teilo’s Church, Pembroke Dock and was officiated by Rev Nigel Thomas, with a reading by Rev Thelma Barber. Interment followed at Llanion cemetery, where Richard Allen was cross bearer.

The bearers were Jonathan and Jason Hyde, George Burton and Clive Cole.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Ambulance Service and St Teilo’s Church.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, Pembroke Dock.

Mr J. F. Rees

Reading (formerly of St Brides)

The death occurred at Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, on June 29th, of John Rees. He was 68.

John was born in Haverfordwest and moved to St Brides at the age of 13. He attended Haverfordwest Grammar School and subsequently college in Cardiff.

Prior to moving to Cardiff and on student holidays he turned out as hooker for Haverfordwest Rugby Club.

After qualifying in electrical engineering he took up employment with South Wales Electricity Board. Five years later he obtained a position with the London Electricity Council and moved to Bexley, in Kent. Further promotion took him to the headquarters of Southern Electricity Board when he moved to Reading. He took advantage of early retirement and he and his wife Carol went on holidays and cruises.

John died after a short illness. He was cremated in Reading on July 9th and leaves to mourn: Carol (wife); James (son); Naomi (daughter-in-law); Jack and Ollie (grandsons); May (mother); Michael (brother); Gill (sister-in-law); Katherine and Mark (niece and husband); David (nephew); Rose Warlow, Roger and Ann Warlow and Margaret Thomas (cousins).

Mr P. C. Soar

Martletwy

Peter Colin Soar of Ridgeway Nursing Home, Llawhaden died on Sunday, June 26th, aged 67, having fought illness for the past 11 years. A native of Martletwy, he spent most of his working life as a self-employed builder. He was a keen sportsman and played cricket for Lawrenny and Kilgetty.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, July 7th, at Parc Gwyn, Narberth, officiated by Rev Elwyn John.

The principal mourners were: Elizabeth (sister); Nigel and Rosalyn (brother and sister-in-law); Marcus and Kathleen (brother and sister-in-law); Jenny and Bryn (sister and brother-in-law) and family and friends.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Hywel Evans, of Narberth.

Mr W. E. Williams

Haverfordwest

William Elmore Williams (known as Billy), of Tan Bank, Haverfordwest, died at Withybush Hospital on July 2nd, aged 80.

He was born at Tan Bank and lived there all his life. After leaving school he worked at Blands Garage until joining the army at the age of 18. He was posted to Germany and served there for three years.

After returning home, Billy was employed as a motor mechanic working first for the GPO in Quay Street and later for BT, where he worked for more than 33 years until he took early retirement.

Family left to mourn are: Sigrid Williams (wife); Michael Williams (son); Sylvia and Ken Humphreys (daughter and son-in-law); Karen and Brian Wright (grand-daughter and husband); Sophie and Daryl Sheehan (granddaughter and husband); Joshua, Ryan, Thomas and Rio (great grandchildren); Morris and Elsie Williams (brother and sister-in-law); Elisabeth Macklin (sister); Verna, Nigel, Glyn, Rosemary, Jennifer, Graham, Kay and Colin (nieces and nephews); Dorothy, Keith, Vera and Rita (cousins). Unable to attend Peggy Jenkins (cousin) as well as many close friends.

The bearers were Michael Williams (son); Ken Humphreys (son-in-law); Brian Wright, Daryl Sheehan (grandsons-in-law).

Mr A. Edwards

St Davids

The death occurred on June 27th of Alan Edwards of Maes Dyfed, St Davids. He died at his home, aged 58. He had worked as a painter and decorator.

The funeral was held on Friday, July 3rd at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

The service was led by Jonathan Lean. The bearers were Alun Morris, Paul Phillips, Paul Evans and David Guy.

The principal mourners are: Anne (wife); Victoria (daughter); Glenys (mother); Andrea and Alun, Jeff and Sian (cousins); Ken (father-in-law); together with other relatives, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only with donations for Cancer Research to Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, SA65 9BB who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs C. Howell

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred at South Pembrokeshire Hospital, on July 1st, of Carol Howell (nee Davies), of Castle Street, Pennar. She was one of seven children, and was educated at Rosemarket and later at Taskers School. She had several jobs at Green's Motors and later was a school helper before she retired because of poor health.

She had two sons, James and Jason; three sisters Joyce, Josephine and Jill; three brothers Roy, Colwyn and John.

The family left to mourn are: James, Jason and Clare, Joyce and Ken, Roy, Josephine, Colwyn and John. Unable to attend was Joe Davies (father because of ill health); Joanne, Steve, Gareth plus cousins and aunt Mary Williams.

The service at Parc Gwyn was led by Rev Thomas and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son.

There were family flowers only, with donations for ward ten, Withybush Hospital, to Roy Davies, 29 Coombes Drive, Milford Haven SA73 2NU.

Mr M. Harries

Woodstock

The death occurred at Ridgeway Nursing Home, Llawhaden, on June 24th of Thomas Myrfyn Harries, of Highgrove, Woodstock and formerly of Caerwen, Solva.

He was born in Caerforiog Mill, Solva, and worked on many farms in the area before marrying Barbara in 1945 whereafter they farmed together at Caerwen, Solva until his retirement in 1991.

Myrfyn was a keen fisherman and was the treasurer of the St Davids and District Ploughing Association for 26 years. He was also a member of the Wallal John Choir in Solva and deacon of Trefgarn Owen Congregational Chapel.

He was a family man derived great joy from his extended family.

The family left to mourn are: Janet and Ernest Harries (daughter and son-in-law) Adrian and Tracy Harries and Julian and Alison Harries (grandsons and granddaughters -in-law) Anthea and Stephen Phillips (granddaughter and grandson-in-law) Stuart, Nia, Ffiôn Mari, Seren, Jacob and Mared (great-grandchildren) Mair Evans (sister) nieces and nephews together with many other members of the family and friends.

Unable to attend were Eufron Phillips (sister); Lena Harries (sister-in-law) and Rev Aled Jenkins.

The funeral took place at Trefgarn Owen Chapel. Interment was in the chapel cemetery.

Officiating at the service were Rev Geoffrey Eynon, Rev Carl Williams, Rev William Owen, John Evans, and Margurite Price. The organist was Cerwyn Davies. A tribute was given by Leonard Rees. The bearers were Paul Evans, Meurig Harries, Peter Reynish, Euros Lewis, Gerwyn James and Roger Jones.

There were family flowers only, donations for Narberth Health Centre may be sent to Rev Geoffrey Eynon, Y Mans, Wolfscastle, Haverfordwest, SA62 5NB.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.

Mrs G. M. Barrett

Haverfordwest

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on July 7th of Georgianna Mary Barrett, of Laburnum Grove, Haverfordwest. She was 70.

Originally from County Cork, her interests included the Over 50s Ladies Catholic Club, Haverfordwest Cricket Club and the Royal Navel Association (Haven branch). She attended St David’s and St Patrick's Catholic Church.

Family left to mourn are: Patrick John Barrett (husband); June, Patricia and Michelle (daughters); Edward (son); Sean and Niall (grandsons); Kerry and Leigh (granddaughters); Dorothy (sister); Laurence (daughter-in-law); Eileen (sister); Dick (brother); Carl (brother-in-law); Joan (sister-in-law); Jo (sister-in-law) plus nephews and nieces and a large circle of friends.

The service was held at St David’s and St Patrick's Catholic Church, Haverfordwest, followed by interment at City Road Cemetery, and was officiated by Father Tim Cullen and Father Owen McGreal. The bearers were Edward (son); Sean (grandson); Bob (son-in-law) and Danny (son-in-law).

Donations to ward ten Trust Fund may be sent to the manager, Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.
