Mrs C. L. J. Stockdale

Haverfordwest

Clara Lily Joan Stockdale died on March 6th at Withybush Hospital, after a short stay. She was 82 and lived in Marychurch Court, Haverfordwest.

Originally from Milford Haven, she worked on Milford Docks during the Second World War, and also worked in the smokehouse during the 1960s.

She was born in the Bath House, Blackbridge, and from an early age dived out of her bedroom window into the water. She was also known to dive off the flagpole plinth at Milford outdoor swimming pool in her younger days. She was the first woman to drive a Lister truck on Milford Docks.

She loved bingo, swimming and dancing.

Clara was predeceased by her husband Patrick Anthony Stockdale in 2005.

A service was held at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, followed by interment at City Road Cemetery and was officiated by Father Jaime Bautista of Milford Haven.

The bearers were Tony Algieri, Gareth Stockdale, James Evans and Martino Algieri.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs V. J. St Pierre

Monkton

The death of Valerie Joy St Pierre (nee Penn) occurred at her home in Montgomery Close, Monkton, on March 23rd. She was 73.

Originally from Dorset, she was a naval wife, and had several jobs including shop and factory work. Her interests included darts, socialising and knitting and being a member of the Haven Evangelical Church, Pembroke and Grace Church in Narberth.

Val fostered for many years after moving to Pembroke Dock in 1963. After divorcing in 1976, she moved back to Dorset and then after re-marrying Philip she moved to London, where she lived for ten years, returning to Pembroke in 1986, where she had lived ever since.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Philip St Pierre (husband); Steven and Henrietta Penn (son and daughter-in-law); Sharron and Andrew Smart (daughter and son-in-law); Toni Kahl (daughter); Simon, Michelle and Declyn, Michael, Miranda, Blake and Theo, Paul, Louise, Reece and Seph (grandsons, partners and great grandsons); Karla (close family friend); Janet Prosser (close friend).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was officiated by Philip Prosser.

There were family flowers only, with donations for ward seven, Withybush Hospital, to E. C. Thomas and Son, 51 Stockwell Road, Pembroke Dock, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr C. Thomas

Pentlepoir

Clifford Thomas, of Green Park, Pentlepoir, died on January 31st at Withybush Hospital. He was 92.

Originally from Martletwy, he worked in the haulage business with his father and brothers. After his marriage he moved to Jubilee House, Cross Hands, where he continued with haulage and as a rabbit and poultry dealer before building and running Jubilee stores and petrol station.

Following the death of their son Trevor in 1967, Clifford and Jessie moved to Woodlands Guest House in Saundersfoot, from there to Glyn-Mar in Sandy Hill Road, and eventually retired to Pentlepoir.

He enjoyed meeting friends (fondly known as Pentlepoir’s version of The Last of the Summer Wine), at the post office each morning, to share news and generally put the world to rights.

Clifford devoted the last few years of his life to caring for Jessie.

He had been a member of Saundersfoot bowling club and enjoyed driving and DIY and attended Bethel Baptist Chapel, Loveston, where he was a deacon.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jessie Thomas (wife); Anne John (daughter); Rhys John (grandson); Becky John (granddaughter); Edna Scourfield (sister); Carol Tromans, Jean and Norman Gordin, Gwyneth and David Herbert, Thelma Tribe, Roy and Margaret Tribe, Hugh and Norma Tribe, Keith and Pauline Williams (nieces and nephews).

The funeral was held at Bethel Baptist Chapel, Loveston and was officiated by Rev Hywel Brown. The bearers were Willie Allen, Derek Rowan, Patrick Wadia and Robert Mears.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Bethel Baptist Chapel, Loveston, to be sent to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, Narberth SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs M. C. Waite

Johnston (formerly of Milford Haven)

The death occurred on March 17th of Margaret Clara Waite, of Steynton Road, Milford Haven. She was a resident of Fairfield Care Home, Johnston, and was 89.

Originally from Milford Haven, she was sent to London during the war, where she met her husband.

She then worked in a factory making record and music players in Marking, Essex. When she retired, she was a clerical assistant for the Law Society in London.

She was predeceased by her husband William George Waite.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: David and Sharon Waite (son and daughter-in-law); Geraldine, Elliot, Kimberley and Hayden (grandchildren); Carole Waite (niece).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

Mr D. R. Hoggins

Milford Haven

The death of David Robert (Firpo) Hoggins, of Richard John Road, Milford Haven, occurred at Withybush Hospital on March 12th. He was 66.

Originally from Milford Haven, he worked in the haulage industry and also went to sea as a second engineer.

He was a TA in the army and enjoyed gardening and was fascinated by trees and wood.

Family left to mourn are Robert and Nicholas and families.

The service was held at Hamilton Court, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. The bearers were J. Moore, Henry James, Peter Griffiths and Rodger Shelldon.

Donations in lieu of flowers are for ward ten, Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.

Mr T. M. Jenkins

St Davids

The death of Mansel Jenkins, of New Street, St Davids, occurred on March 24th. He was 88.

The funeral took place on March 29th at St David’s Cathedral, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. Rev Johnathon Lean and Rev Michael Rowlands officiated.

The bearers were Geraint Davies, Gareth Davies, Mair Davies, Anthony Longstaff, Nigel Williams and Leigh Williams.

Family left to mourn are: Sally (wife); Gillian and Graham (daughter and son-in-law); Nigel and Leigh (grandsons); Gordon and Bryn (brothers); Eira and Alan (sister and brother-in-law); also nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to mention, together with many friends.

Mr H. G. Morgan

Milford Haven

The funeral took place on March 17th of Hubert George Morgan (Bert), of Richard John Road, Milford Haven, who died at his daughter’s home on March 10th. He was 89.

He started work at the Milford Haven Urban District Council from school, where he did various jobs, one being a lifeguard at the outdoor swimming pool. He then spent 11 years at the Milford Haven estate as a mate to a stonemason. Finally, he worked at the RNAD in the carpenters’ shop, until he retired in 1985.

He was a keen gardener in his younger days and especially enjoyed growing chrysanthemums, dahlias and tomatoes. He enjoyed bowling, playing outdoors and indoors for many years. He was an honorary member of Milford Haven bowling club. For the past year, he had been helping disabled bowlers at the Meads Sports Centre.

He had been a lifelong member of the Tabernacle United Reformed Church.

He was predeceased by his wife Cissie Morgan, in 2008.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Irene and Bob Atkin, Jean and Stephen Monk (daughters and sons-in-law); Hayley Atkin (granddaughter); Pat and Ken Clay (niece and husband); David and Mary Morgan (nephew and wife) plus other close family members.

The service was held at the Tabernacle United Reformed Church and was officiated by Rev Alan Jenkins. The bearers were Tony Eden, Peter Evans, Billy Jones and Frank Newing.

Members of the Milford Haven bowling club formed a guard of honour at the entrance of the church.

There were family flowers only, with donations for the Paul Sartori Foundation.

Miss W. M. Wiffen

Milford Haven

Winifred May Wiffen, of Canterbury House, Priory Road, Milford Haven, died on March 25th, aged 93.

A native of Milford Haven, Win was one of seven sisters who spent most of her life living in the family home at Marlbrough House, Pill Lane. She later lived at the home of her sister Emily in St Lawrence Avenue, Hakin, before finally, poor health led her to enter residential care at Canterbury House, Milford Haven.

Win began her working life after leaving school at 14 with W. L. Davies Newsagent, formerly in Charles Street.

During the Second World War, she contributed to the war effort by working in the flax factory at Marble Hall and returned to W. L. Davies for a short period.

She then gave up paid employment to devote herself to caring for the children of her sister Olive who had died.

Later she joined the schools meals service at the central kitchens, which was the distribution centre for local school meals, and she eventually took on a supervisory role there. She enjoyed her work and established good friendships while she continued with the task of caring for her niece, Barbara.

She retired in 1976, during which time Win enjoyed knitting, reading and gardening.

She spent much time and energy maintaining Marlbrough House as the base for the family, many of whom returned to Milford to spend holidays together. She enjoyed her many visits to Warrington, Torquay and Beaconsfield to spend time with members of her family.

Win was a steadfast member of the congregation at Tabernacle Chapel in Charles Street.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans. The bearers were Michael Betty, Jeffrey Reynolds, Brian Johnson (nephews), Bill Lawrence (nephew-in-law).

The principal mourners are: Emily Reynolds and Violet Johnson (sisters); Ron Betty (brother-in-law), also in attendance many friends, neighbours, carers from Canterbury House and members from the Tabernacle Chapel.

Unable to attend were: Iris Cooper (sister, Oldham); Barbara and Bill Lawrence, Mary and Alan Wright, Brian Johnson, Dr Peter Davies and Joan Davies, Jeffrey and Dorothy Reynolds, Jane Reynolds, Michael and Carol Betty (nephews and nieces); Dawn Kingscott, Helen Hernandez-Lawrence, Bethan Reynolds (great nieces); Nicholas and Christian Reynolds (Saundersfoot), David Reynolds (Clarbeston); Ian Wright and wife Nicola, Robin Davies and wife Nicola (great nephews).

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for RNLI (Hakin branch) to be sent to Michael Betty, Avalon, St Clements Road, Neyland, SA73 1SH.
