Mr P. Edwards

Milford Haven

The death of Philip Edwards occurred at his home in Pill Green, Milford Haven, on March 17th. He was 56.

Originally from St Ishmaels, he was the only son of Ruth and the late Vince Edwards.

On leaving school he was an apprentice joiner with Milford Council. He also drove HGV vehicles and before starting as a self-employed builder, he worked at Jewsons.

For the last 15 years, Philip was a self-employed joiner doing work he really enjoyed and took pride in. He could turn his hand to almost anything and enjoyed doing all general building works.

Although Philip had lived in Milford for more than 30 years, he was still a ‘Tish Boy’ at heart. He liked tinkering about with mowers, motorbikes or anything mechanical. He played darts for the Bridge and the Hakin Social Club.

He attended St Ishmaels school and then Milford Central, where he established a name for cross country running, winning events for quite a few years.

He was a devoted husband to Linda for 23 years.

The funeral service was held at Monks Haven Church, St Ishmaels, and was officiated by Rev Peter Jones with a tribute from Malcolm Hawkins (family friend). The bearers were Darren and Christopher Hawkins (nephews); Mark and Andrew Howells (sons of cousins); Mike O’Sullivan and Ian McCallan (friends).

Mr J. F. Sinnett

Milford Haven

James F. Sinnett (Jim), of Vivian Drive, Hakin, Milford Haven, died on April 6th at Withybush Hospital, aged 87.

Jim worked at Milford Docks, Esso Refinery during its construction and as a caretaker of Hakin CP School for 25 years.

He leaves to mourn: Olwen (wife); Anne and Graham Hughes (daughter and son-in-law); Jeff and Helen Sinnett, John Sinnett (sons and daughter-in-law); Richard and Helen Hughes, Elaine Hughes and Darren Gharibi, David Sinnett (grandchildren and partners); John Sinnett, Betty Lewis, Ted and Marlene Sinnett, Alan Smith, Terry and Marion Sinnett, Dorothy Sinnett and Peter, Betty Davies (brothers, sisters and sisterís-in-law); along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

Unable to attend were: Eileen Davies (sister); Brenda Sinnett, Betty Davies (sisters-in-law), Mr B. Lewis and Mr B. Davies (brothers-in-law).

The service was held at St Andrew’s Church, Robeston West, followed by interment in the churchyard. The bearers were Richard Hughes, David Sinnett (grandsons); Steven Sinnett and Anthony Davies (nephews).

Mrs E. A. Howells

Pendine

The death occurred on April 14th of Elizabeth Ann Howells (Lizzie), of Marros, Pendine. She was 97.

A native of Pendine, Lizzie started married life farming Woodreef, Amroth and then farmed at Clyngwyn, Marros for 36 years.

She retired to Rose Villa, Marros, in 1976.

Lizzie enjoyed reading and watching sport on television until her eyesight failed. She was a member at Zoar Baptist Chapel until it closed in 1997. Her family were founder members of the chapel.

She was married for 67 years to John Henry James Howells, who predeceased her in 2000.

Mr W. Hardy, MBE

Tenby

The death occurred on April 14th of Wilfred Hardy MBE, of Serpentine Road, Tenby. He was 83, and was the much-loved husband of Christine and father of Robert.

Born in Middlesbrough in 1927, he saw war-time service as an apprentice in the Merchant Navy. He laterentered the RAF marine branch in which he served for 33 years. In 1974 he was awarded the MBE for his service in Aden.

He was posted to Tenby for the first time in 1959 where he met his future wife Christine (nee Vault) whom he married in 1962. They had one son, Robert.

On retirement from the RAF in 1979, Wilf entered local politics, becoming both mayor of Tenby and leader of South Pembs district council.

Wilf was employed on retirement from the RAF at P & E E Pendine and became custodian of the Tudor Merchants House, Tenby.

Although not Tenby-born, Wilf was passionate about the town and its people. He threw himself into the life of Tenby, reflected in the many organisations he belonged to which included the Tenby Museum, Tenby Civic Society, Probus, Tenby Masonic Lodge, Royal British Legion, Royal Air Force Society, and St. Mary’s Church as well as commissioned service in the Air Training Corps both in Tenby and Whitland.

In his latter days, it was his work for the Royal British Legion and RAFA that he was most associated with, becoming president of both organisations, an abiding memory being his leading of the annual act of remembrance at the town’s war memorial.

The funeral service took place at St Mary’s Church, Tenby, where Rev Andrew Davies officiated assisted by the Rev Dewi Bridges. A large congregation, including members of the town council, heard readings by Jack Docherty and Harold James (friends). The eulogy was delivered by Robert Hardy (son). The last post was played. Internment took place at Tenby New Cemetery. The bearers were Lee Richards, David Richards, Peter Edwards and Craig McGee (members of the Royal British Legion).

Mrs A. Roche Haverfordwest The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on April 4th of Anastatia (Dolly) Roche, of Hawthorn Rise, Haverfordwest. She was 88.

Originally from Kilrane, Rosslare, Co Wexford, Eire, she worked for Powers, Fishguard, and the medical centre in Winch Lane.

She retired from Pembrokeshire Technical College 28 years ago.

She met her husband Christopher at his home-coming party when he returned from a POW camp. He died in 1997.

Her interests included her family, pressed flower pictures, cake decorating, crafts, gardening, topiary and dressmaking.

She was also a former member of Fishguard women’s football team.

She was an active member of St David’s and St Patrick’s Church, Haverfordwest, and will be remembered for her beautifully decorated Christmas cakes.

Mrs P. A. Howitt

Narberth

The funeral took place recently of Patricia Ann Howitt, of Bloomfield Terrace, Narberth, who died on March 23rd. She was 52.

Originally from Preston, Lancashire, her family owned a chip shop in Narberth. She worked at Bright Buds Playgroup for many years, and was a receptionist at Narberth swimming pool for several decades.

She was a Brown Owl at Narberth Brownies for 30 years, and was also a member of the ladies committee of the RAOB Club in Narberth.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Peter Howitt (husband); Steven and Jennie (children); Kelly and Denis (daughter and son-in-law); Aidan, Jessica, Todd and Shaun (grandchildren); Margaret and Derek Morris and family, Tommy and Sandra Howitt, John and Rose Howitt, Rourke family, staff at Narberth pool and members of girl guiding groups.

The death of Winefred Glenys Moore, of Rectory Avenue, Hakin, Milford Haven, occurred on March 16th at home. She was 82.

Her interests were her family, garden and music.

Mr W. C. Lehman

Milford Haven

William Charles Lehman, of Robert Street, Milford Haven, died on March 25th at his home. He was 90.

A native of Lower Priory, Milford Haven, he worked in the box factory there and then Gibson and King and H. F. McEntee. When he retired in 1986 he was working as a contractors site agent at Esso refinery.

He served in the 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusilliers in France, India, Madagascar and South Africa and gained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the BEM in Burma at the age of 21.

He enjoyed walking, had a keen interest in nature, and enjoyed puzzles and crosswords. He also enjoyed playing the organ and baking, especially his own bread.

He played a key role in nurturing his two grandsons James and Elliott, and always had the utmost patience.

His was a widower after his wife Margaret died.

Mr L. Evans

Burton

The funeral took place recently of Leslie Evans, of Meadow Park, Burton, who died on April 12th at his home. He was 79.

Originally from Aberdare, he taught for several years in Fishguard and Narberth before setting up the Rhos Garden Centre and landscape business, which he ran for more than 40 years. He retired 16 years ago.

He enjoyed walking, cycling, foreign travel, reading and he took pride in designing and cultivating his garden in Burton. He was also a member of the Haverfordwest Probus No 1 Club.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Katherine (wife); Dr Helen Burton, Karen James, Antony Evans (daughters and son); Edward and Elizabeth Burton, Huw Evans (grandchildren); Jon and Steve Lees (stepchildren); Tim and Heather Lees (stepson and wife); Karen and Dave Evans (step-granddaughter and husband); Phyllis Brace (cousin). Mrs J. Clements

Tenby

Joanne Clements was born in Alexandria, Scotland in 1979. Her late father Patrick Clements, was stationed in Scotland in the Royal Navy.

The family later settled in Gosport, Hampshire, where Joanne spent her teenage years. She played an active role and an enjoyable time learning to dance and represented her school many times in competitions.

It was in Salisbury that Joanne trained to be a registered nurse, meeting Jonathan in 2002. In 2005 she moved to Pembrokeshire with Jonathan and they married the following year in Tenby. She started work in Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest and soon established herself as a much-valued part of the team on the intensive care unit.

Joanne will be remembered for her caring nature, loyalty, sense of fun and her shining smile. Also, for the bravery with which she faced her illness.

Canon Geoffrey Gwyther and Canon John Harvey officiated at the service at Parc Gwyn. Bearers were Jonathan Prickett, Barry Clements, Robert Prickett and William Harding.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Chemo Day Unit, Withybush Hospital or Shalom House, St Davids c/o Jonathan Prickett.
