Eric Dawson

Pembroke The death occurred at home on October 27th after a long illness, of Eric Dawson, Brambles Chapel Hill, Maidewells, he was 82.

Born in Dover, Eric spent his childhood in Cranford until during the war, he was evacuated to a farm in Micheldever, Hampshire.

His teenage years were spent in Oxford working with shirehorses.

Eric joined the Royal Marines and later served in the merchant navy, during these years Eric travelled the world extensively.

Trawler fishing in the early nineteen fifties brought Eric to Milford Haven and the following years he worked in Margum steel works and Llanwern. He then moved with his family to the Midlands, returning to Pembrokeshire when the oil refineries were being built, whilst living in the Midlands, Eric, with partners formed their own successful construction company almost every year returning with his family to Pembrokeshire for holidays.

Twenty four years ago Eric retired and returned once more to Pembroke where he was content to spend the rest of his days at home gardening, growing vegetables and chrysanthemums.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on November 8th and was officiated by Canon Roger Jones, with a moving tribute from eldest son Peter. The bearers were sons Peter, Derek and grandsons Ryan and Elliot.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Phyllis (wife); Patricia (daughter); Peter, Jamie and Derek (sons); Rebecca, Natalie and Thama (granddaughter); Ryan and Elliot (grandsons); Kobie, Ethan and Gracie (great grandchildren); sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, many nephews, nieces and friends.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the chemotherapy day unit at Withybush Hospital and The Paul Sartori Foundation, being sent to John Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock SA72 6AN, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr G Williams

St Clears

A native of Pembrokeshire Mr Griff Williams, of Lon Hafren, St Clears, died at Glangwili hospital on September 29th 2010, aged 94 years. The funeral service took place at Newchurch, St Clears, conducted by Rev'd Witt.

Born and brought up in Treffgarne the son of a farmer, he was raised at Treffgarne Lodge, and was one of three brothers who predeceased him. He worked at a gent's outfitters in Tenby following schooling at Spittal. He joined the army at the outbreak of war, following hospitalisation and medical discharge he later became Land Officer in Pembrokeshire, supervising land army girls and prisoners of war who worked on local farms in the county. He subsequently worked at P&EE, Pendine, and in 1979 was awarded the Imperial Service Medal, after 33 years service.

A former Mayor of St Clears, he served on fifteen councils or other local committees.

Principle mourners were: Molly (wife); Nigel (son); Janet (daughter-in-law); Karen and Stephen (granddaughter and husband); Simon and Lucy (grandson and wife); Alexander, Emily, Owen and Meredith (grandchildren) and nephews Vernon and Peter.

The bearers were neighbours Alan Glanville, Harcourt John, and John Phillips, together with British Legion representatives, Jeff Morse, Dewi Thomas and Tom Brown. John Mycroft kindly carried the legion standard.

The funeral directors were Peter Evans, Plashett.

Mr Harold Dickinson

Fishguard

Harold Dickinson, 1 Pantycelyn Fishguard, died peacefully on the 12th November, 2010 at Langton Hall Scleddau, near Fishguard where he had spent the last 10 weeks of his life.

Born and raised in Blackpool, Lancashire he came to Fishguard in 1939 when his building company had the contract to build the houses in Trecwn for the Ministry of Defence.

He met and married Freda Miles and made their home here. They were married for 59 years and he was devastated when Freda died suddenly 10 years ago. He successfully built up his building company and developed Hill Side Close in Goodwick, Pen Yr Aber in Fishguard as well as other developments in Haverfordwest. When he retired at the age of 70, they bought a home in Fuengirola, Spain where they spent the six winter months.

His relaxation came in the form of bowling where he was a founding member of the Fishguard and Goodwick Bowling Club and a committee member of the RNLI.

A service was held in St Mary's, Fishguard with internment at Parc gwyn Crematorium.

Principal mourners were his two daughters, Diane and Jean, and son-in-law Gordon Brooks. His grandchildren Anthony and Canduce, David and Kaila, Karen and Meurig, Adrian and Nicola, Joanne and Charles; great grandchildren Carl, Charlie, Harry, George, Kiren, Annie, Shane and Luke.

The bearers were his grandsons, Anthony Brooks, David Brooks, Adrian Brooks and Charles Turpin. The Reverend Don MacGregor took the service and there were family flowers only.

Mr Cleo Bertrand Joseph Dureau

Pembroke Dock

The death of Cleo Bertrand Joseph Dureau occurred on November13th at Withybush hospital.

Requiem Mass led by Father John Patrick took place on November19th at St Mary's R.C. Church, Pembroke Dock, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

Born in 1933, on the family farm in Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the thirteenth and youngest child of Cecile and Lucien Dureau. As a young man he worked as a welder on construction projects throughout Canada . In 1961 he married Ann (nee David) from Pembroke Dock, who was teaching in his home-town in Saskatchewan. Together they travelled and worked in the United States before moving to Pembroke Dock where they made their home and Cleo started his own building and construction business.

After a serious car accident in 1988, his business activities wound down to eventual retirement. The past few years have seen him limited by declining health to home life, enjoying the news of his five daughters and twelve grandchildren, of whom he was extremely proud, and chatting with old friends and family.

He had diverse hobbies and interests. In Canada he had obtained his private pilot's license. In Wales he took up deep sea diving with enthusiasm, and his passion for competitive snooker was well known among many in the local leagues. For his own pleasure and to the surprise of those few who heard him he played the piano with considerable competence.

Principal mourners at the funeral were: Sian and Colin Colvin, Louisa Dorji, Elizabeth and Paul Burnett, Barbara Dureau and Sarah and Jeremy Wiener (daughters and sons-in-law); Paul Barnes and Henri Souchotte (nephews); Robyn Chatterson (niece) from Canada; Luc and Jacque Barford, and Jamie and Amy Dureau (grandchildren).

Unable to attend were Claude Dureau (brother); Elaine Flette (sister) and many other family members living in Canada, Kunzang Dorji (son-in-law), Eleanor Burnett, Tenzin Dorji, Trisung Dorji, Tashi Dorji, Tsangma Dorji, Joseph Wiener, Katrin Wiener and Emily Wiener (grandchildren).

Readings at the Mass were by Robyn Barnes and Luc Barford. A eulogy was given by Paul Barnes and the offertory was presented by Jamie Dureau and Mrs K. Lewis (family friend). Bearers were Paul Barnes, Henri Souchotte, Luc and Jacque Barford and friends John Goodwin and Terry Rees. There were immediate family flowers only with donations for the intensive Care unit at Withybush Hospital to J. Roberts & Sons, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr David Llewellyn Jones

Angle

The death occurred recently of David Llewellyn Jones from Angle. He was 67. David was born at Hardings Hill Farm, as was his father. David married Irene at Angle church in 1972 and they both continued to work at Hardings Hill until they retired in March this year.

David was a well-liked and respected member of his local community and was at his happiest around his family.

David enjoyed watching rugby (Scarlets) and took pleasure in the company of good friends.

A large gathering attended the funeral service which was held at St Marys Church, Angle and was officiated by Rev Geoffrey Howells and Rev Roger Jones. The family left to mourn are Irene (wife); Phill (son); Sarah and Phil (daughter and son-in-law); Hannah and Josh (grandchildren) to whom he was affectionately known as Bob.

The bearers were Phill Jones, Phil Greenwood, Hugie Richards and Paul Box. There were family flowers only with donations in lieu of flowers to the NSPCC being sent to Neil Roberts, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock was also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr Alvierd Pizzardi

Pembroke

The funeral took place recently of Mr Alvierd Pizzardi, of Margaret's Way, Pembroke, who passed away on October 13th, at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. He was 74.

He was originally from Italy and always wanted to become a chef and so he left Italy to Train in France, Spain and Switzerland before finally settling in Wales. His reputation in catering became so well known that he was headhunted to work at the Holyland Hotel in Pembroke. He later went on to work at the Sundowner Motel, New Hedges, and the Manor House in St Florence before being asked to work at the Begelly Arms, Kilgetty where he remained for many years until he decided to open his own business. Alvierd opened the very first pizzeria takeaway in Pembrokeshire in 1982 and worked tirelessly until he retired in 1999.

He became well known locally from the success of the pizzeria and became friends with many of his regular customers, who all say he was always cheerful and willing to share a laugh and a joke.

Alvierd was a keen gardener, he also enjoyed dancing and socialising and was a regular at the Begelly Arms on a Saturday night.

He liked to keep busy and would regularly help out at 'Graingers' in the dockyard and also during the winter months he was part of the beating team at Slebech.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Margaret (former wife); Luisa and Jim (daughter and son-in-law); Francesca and Malcolm (daughter and partner); Luca, David and Gino (grandchildren); Julia Davies and Derek Wise.

The service was held at St Maryís Catholic Church, Pembroke Dock, followed by a service in Italy, which was his final wish to return home where he will be laid to rest in the family crypt and was officiated by Father Patrick.

The bearers were Derek Wise, Natalino Servini, Paul Rossi and Peter Guerriero.

There were family flowers only with donations if so desired for Musgrove Park Hospital HDU and Withybush Hospital c/o E C Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
