Saturday, July 28th, saw the inaugural Pembrokeshire Darts Series begin with a bang and a high standard of darts at Haverfordwest Rugby Club.

In a field of 32 players, it was left to Milford Haven’s Robert Hughes to take the honours, coming from 3-2 down to beat St Ishmaels’ Darren ‘Doggy’ Hawkins in a hugely entertaining final – with a final score of 6 legs to 5

The series, set up by Gareth Lawlor, Malcolm Hawkins, Martin Allerton, Gareth Jones, Jeremy Evans and Jonny Sutton, is being played over four linked tournaments but each are also individual competitions in their own right.

Keen to expand on their popular Neyland Charity Darts event, the boys chose venues around the county that were suitable to host and also with an eye on helping increase their turnover.

The venues were selected earlier in 2018 and already there is a large interest from other venues to host the 2019 series, which if successful may contain six game days.

Game Day II, at Llangwm Rugby Club on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 26, is fast approaching with the boys hopeful of increasing the field numbers and having another exceptional tournament.

Gareth Lawlor said: “With Robert Hughes away at the Champion of Champions Event in Cardiff we know in advance that there will be a different winner which will not only increase the chances of the others to win on Game Day II but also mean that the leaderboard will look a lot different going into Game Day III”

The boys would also like to thank series sponsors Ron Skinner and Sons, Jeff Clout Inflatables, Roscoe Tree Services and The Huntsman Public House.

Jonny meanwhile, is leaving before the next tournament to do volunteer work in Kenya, and fellow organisers have wished him the best of luck and look forward seeing at the final at the Oak.
