Former Haverfordwest manager Sean Cresser has broken his silence after parting company with the club last week.

Cresser was at the start of his seventh year at the Bridge Meadow when the news was announced, with the club citing 'differences of opinion on important issues' as the reason.

In a statement sent to Telegraph Sport, Cresser outlined his feelings on the sacking before going on to wish the club well for the future.

Sean Cresser:

"I’d like to be able to answer the question I’m being asked by many as to why I was relieved of my duties last week, but the prepared statement that was read out over the phone, informing me I was being sacked, was vague - as was the statement released publicly by the club, and there followed no further explanation.

"To my knowledge, there were no unresolved ‘differences of opinion’ and any previously raised were always settled respectfully and professionally. I always tried to uphold these values when dealing with everyone at Haverfordwest Football Club, but particularly when dealing with the people who I believe are the most important, the players, who I’d like to think I had a good and respectful relationship with.

"I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with and promote many of the development players into the first team and was pleased with what the current young, vastly local squad achieved in Division One last season. When I left the club last week, there were a total of 17 Pembrokeshire based players in the first team squad, 13 of whom have been brought in from the development team over the last two seasons.

"This is testament to the work that the management of the development squad undertake year upon year. I hope that in the not too distant future, the club can sit in the shade of those trees that have been planted in the last couple of seasons.

"At this time, I’d like to thank the board and committee, supporters, volunteers, and all of the players and staff that I have worked with over the last seven seasons at the club. I’d especially like to thank the management teams with whom I have worked these past two seasons, namely Tim Hicks, Chris O'Sullivan, Ryan Evans and Mickey Ellis.

"I’d also like to thank everyone, both inside and outside of the club, for all the messages and phone calls of support that I’ve received over the past week."

In response, the club issued the following:

“Having read Mr Cresser's statement, Haverfordwest County do not wish to enter into a war of words with their ex-manager other than to say that the board had carefully considered all the facts at the time, and remain totally convinced that the correct decision was made."
