Lonely at Christmas? Not at Fishguard and Goodwick RFC you won't be.

The club will be taking the unusual step of calling in club members on December 25th – but it won’t be for training or playing purposes.

Instead, the Seagulls are admirably putting on Christmas dinner for anyone who may be spending the day alone. From 2.30pm onwards, club volunteers will open the doors and the food, including a drink, will be completely free. Food will be served at 3pm.

“It’s for people who are homeless or for whatever reason are feeling lonely. That can include couples as well or anyone who has been through a difficult time,” said James Morgans, of Fishguard RFC.

“We don’t want anything from people. If they want to make a small donation to charity they can but all we want is for them to leave the club happier than they would have been had they not come.”

Thus far, the club has received local donations from local businesses impressed by the idea, including bottles of wine, turkey crowns, and even lifts home for people.

The amazing gesture has also received widespread praise from fellow rugby clubs and on social media.

Spaces are limited so anyone interested in attending, or donating something to the event, can contact the club on 07970 517886.
