Division 1: Carew (180 for 4) beat Burton (178 all out) by 6 wickets

Good batting by captain Brian Hall and Ceri Brace in an unbroken stand of 66 runs saw Carew to victory over Burton, despite the absence of several key players.

The result keeps The Rooks in third, while their visitors remain in the bottom two.

Put in to bat first, Burton’s main early contributors to their decent tally of 178 all out in 44.4 overs were Toby Hayman (19), Jonathan Venables (35, including six fours) and Morgan Scale, who also had six boundaries in his 49 before he was caught by Dai Rees off the bowling of Shaun Whitfield. James Davies (19) and his namesake Matthew (22) also made useful contributions.

Tom Davies was again the pick of the Carew bowlers with 4 for 25, alongside Whitfield (2 for 36), Sion Jenkins (1 for 25), Ceri Brace (1 for 25) and Simon Wood (1 for 26).

Carew’s reply included good knocks from Tom Davies (40) and Simon Wood (35) alongside cameos by Nick Davies (15) and Shaun Whitfield against Matthew Webb (2 for 39), Morgan Scale (1 for 48) and Luke Hayman (1 for 28).

Burton might have felt they were still in with a chance at 114 for 4 but then Hall and Brace combined, running well between the wickets and punishing any loose deliveries, the skipper ending up on 24 not out as Brace scored 42 not out as The Rooks won in 41.5 overs.
