Trading Standards have received five separate complaints in relation to the cancelled Long Course Weekend.
The annual event in Tenby, scheduled this year for July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, was called off last month due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has severely disrupted sport throughout the UK.
But in contrast to other events, organisers Activity Wales Events prompted anger amongst competitors by announcing they would only be providing a 50% refund to all athletes, with no option to defer places to 2021.
Furthermore, shortly before the announcement the original terms and conditions that were sent to all entrants were seemingly altered on the Long Course Weekend website, adding the words ‘Should the events not be rearranged a refund will not be issued’. This also applied to those who had paid extra for event insurance.
The company did later backtrack somewhat and promise a discount next year to those who were due to compete this July, but with some having paid more than £300 for weekend entry, the outcry has continued with many registering their discontent with Pembrokeshire County Council.
Now, Trading Standards have confirmed they are currently assessing complaints.
A council spokesman confirmed the authority had received a number of calls on the matter.
“In the first instance callers are advised to log their complaints with the Citizens Advice Bureau who will pass them onto Trading Standards,” he said.
