Pembroke Dock Harlequins 19.

Cwmgors 13.

Pembroke Dock Harlequins went into their home match against Cwmgors knowing that anything other than a win would be a serious set-back to their hopes of remaining in the section and they responded well to the challenge to claim the points.

Level on points at the foot of the table, the Quins had won in Cwmgors by 20-17 and it was clear that this match would be close as the Quins showed a few nerves in the handling stakes but made sure that they were on top in the set-pieces where their front row of Richard McIntyre; Gary Burns and Dean Wilcox dominated to such an extent that they were awarded two penalty tries from close range scrums.

The first came early on and was converted by Dean Lawrence, who linked well at half back with Steve Davies, before Cwmgors replied with a try by centre Jordan Davies which No 8 Richard Gregg converted. The second penalty try, again for a collapsed and retreating scrum, saw Lawrence convert but Cwmgors kept plugging away at their pace and Gregg landed two penalties to reduce the deficit to a single point and send the Quins' supporters' nerves jangling.

But with Darren Gibby organising well at the back and with Jason Griffiths coming on to use his wealth of experience alongside skipper Mike Scourfield the Quins struck a vital blow as they set up a midfield maul from which the powerful Kevin Bratcher, (on at half time), burst clear and sped to the line for an unconverted winning try.
