Laugharne 5.

Crymych 12.

Crymych showed they can do well in this new section as they travelled to Laugharne and came away with a deserved win against one of the teams that are traditionally strongest at home.

The platform for the Crymych success was undoubtedly their pack, which remained on top throughout as skipper Richard Llewellyn, Andrew Morris and former Welsh prop John Davies led the way and the rest followed. They were especially strong in the set-pieces and even after the need for uncontested scrums was brought in because Laugharne had no further front row replacements, the Preseli Men still stayed in control.

Half backs Huw Rees and Gareth Davies also did a good job with their kicking and this was especially so in the first half when Crymych played into the elements but were still seven points ahead as a series of scrums near the home line resulted in Llewellyn crashing over for a try which Huw Rees did well to convert.

It proved to be the only score of the first half and Crymych went further ahead when winger Osian Griffiths made a timely intervention and sped to the line for an unconverted try.

To be fair to Laugharne, they tried to claw their way back and claimed an unconverted try when No 8 Alun Rees ploughed over for a try in the last ten minutes. But the Crymych cover was solid and there were no further mishaps for the Preseli Men as they claimed a fully deserved victory.
