Llanybydder 25.

Cardigan 14.

Cardigan’s excellent start to the new campaign was brought to an abrupt halt at Llanybydder as the Teifisiders were beaten by a determined Llanybydder outfit which adapted to the weather far better than Cardigan.

Cardigan had first use of the wind but failed to kick the ball deep enough into the corners, as they tried to play quality rugby on a day when a little more close-range stuff was perhaps required. They found themselves 10-7 adrift at the half way stage and although they battled back well to lead 14-13, they were unable to hold the home pack and in the final analysis could have few complaints about their defeat.

Barry Thomas used his depth of experience at fly half for Llanybydder and scored a good try.

Half back partner Darrell Griffiths was also fully involved, as he claimed a personal haul of 15 points from a try, two conversions and a penalty.

Strong running centre Ellis Davies also crossed for a try on a good day for Llanybydder.

For Cardigan, there were tries by skipper Colin Davies and outside half Phil Leighton, both of which Davies converted but it was never going to be enough for the Teifisiders to make it five wins in a row.
