Milford Haven 46.

Swansea Uplands 0.

The bad weather which howled its way up from the estuary certainly didn’t affect Milford Haven at the Observatory as the Mariners ran in no fewer than eight tries, whilst keeping a clean sheet themselves.

Coach Alan McClelland was quick to praise his talented young players when he said: “We did all the graft in the first half when we shut out the Uplands’ attacks and did well to score two good tries through hooker Craig Smith and full back Ian Rusinek, which he also converted. Veteran flanker Roy Hadley was outstanding and Scott Walters also used his experience to good effect and helped make sure we kept focussed on our own game plan.”

Mariners’ skipper Carl Allen set the second half alight with a good try as reward for his support and lineout work before young second row partner, Gareth Fawcett also crossed for a try.

Scott Walters scored the next try and doubled his tally with the final score, after Ian Rusinek had claimed a second try and 18 year old Tom Bullivant came on a replacement and marked his first team debut with a try. Rusinek landed two second half conversions and the Mariners found it plain sailing as Rhys Holmes and Ben Johnson did well as a makeshift centre pairing and half backs Aaron Sprowell and Paul Evans called the shots all afternoon.
