Hakin United 2 St Ishmaels 1
Deadly striker Paul Jones scored an 80th minute winner against derby rivals St Ishmaels to hand title favourites Hakin United a healthy six points lead at the summit.
With just six games of the campaign left, it would take a brave man to bet against the Vikings taking the title once again after they claimed the points when a draw looked on the cards.
Vikings’ manager Gary Dawes had a gut feeling that despite Tish’s second from bottom table position this derby clash would not be easy.
The hosts began brightly and deservedly took the lead in the 20th minute when Skilful central midfielder Steve Mathias pounced from six-yards to give his side the upper hand.
Tish keeper Jonathan Pawlett pulled off two fine stops to deny former Tish striker Adam Davies and a Kristan Bennett header as the hosts only led by a narrow one goal margin at the break.
Midway through the second period Glyn Griffiths’ Tish outfit equalised through former Vikings midfielder Marc Devonald.
At that stage a draw looked on the cards, but deadly Jonah slipped his marker and found the bottom corner of Pawlett’s net to win the clash ten minutes from the end.
