Herbrandston 3 Goodwick United 2

Nine-man Herbrandston eased their relegation worries with a cracking home victory over ten-man Goodwick United.

The win lifts Herbrandston up to ninth spot in the table, while Goodwick remain fourth.

Herbie boss Steve Batty was delighted with his side’s spirited performance and over the last few weeks he feels his side have shown true desire to stay in the top flight.

The game was marred by the sendings off of three players by referee Adrian Wilson.

Herbie’s Adrian Rees and Ben Phillips and Goodwick’s Steve Evans all took early showers as the heat of the no nonsense battle took its toll.

The visitors grabbed a 15th minute lead when Lewis Banks’ deflected free kick wrong footed home custodian Martin Langdon.

However, the hosts equalised, with Mike Turpin making no mistake from 12 yards to square matters at half time.

Bernie Armstrong’s Goodwick outfit again took the lead shortly after the turnaround as Darren Devonald fired home from close range.

But classy midfielder Turpin once again equalised with a long-range 40-yard direct free kick that sailed past keeper Carl Woodhouse.

Two minutes from full time Craig Hewer’s sweetly struck half-volley bagged a delighted Herbie the three extremely precious points.
