Two Pembrokeshire women tasted success last week in the biggest event on the equestrian calendar.
Amy James, of Camrose, rode Red Flare to the Mountain and Moorland Working Hunter Pony title at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.
Red Flare, who is owned Steve and Sue Fairlie of Fishguard, is based at Mallards Reach Equestrian Training.
Indeed, it is the third time in the last four years a horse from Mallards has won a class at the Horse of the Year Show.
The win also completed a stellar year for 26-year-old Amy, who this season has won several national titles and competed at international level.
There was also success for 17-year-old Ella Richardson, who finished second in the Youngstock Miniature class with her horse Barley Sweet Pea. The horse has been home bred at Ella’s home in Pencarnan, St Davids.
The event capped a dramatic few weeks for Ella, as last month another of her horses, Serendipity, was crowned Supreme Welsh Miniature Horse Champion.
Ella has said she hopes to qualify both Serendipity and Barley Sweet Pea for the Horse of the Year Show in 2011.
