IRIMI Kai karate club recently held the winter grading with passes from all levels from beginners to black belt.
All students have to follow a syllabus and Wayne Hopkins and Edward Russell had to produce a thesis on what karate means to them and also complete a written exam on the Japanese terminology of the complete syllabus prior to the black belt grading.
On the day both Wayne and Edward were assessed through a training session where they were teaching other grades and then a two and a half hour grade where they had to demonstrate basics in line work, free fighting techniques, kata, throws, bag work, self defence and free sparing to finish.
"Both Wayne and Edward have excelled in what was expected of them," said sensei Aneurin. "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students on passing their grades."
Anyone wanting to train in karate please contact the club instructor Aneurin Mathias on 01239 614264/07968 618605.
