A FOURTH person has died following last Saturday's paddleboarding incident on the river Cleddau and a woman has been arrested, police have said.

Initially three people lost their lives after a group of nine paddleboarders got into trouble on the Cleddau at the weir in Haverfordwest opposite County Hall on October 30.

The three victims who died were Morgan Rogers, 24, from Cefin Coed, Merthyr Tydfil; Nicola Wheatley, 40, from Pontardulais, Swansea and Paul O’Dwyer, 42, from Sandfields, Port Talbot.

In an extraordinary act of bravery local lad Joel Williams entered to water and dragged a person out onto the banks of the Cleddau where he administered CPR until the emergency services came.

Five people were rescued, and one woman was rushed to hospital after being pulled out the water.

The woman, 41-year-old Andrea Powell from the Bridgend area, has now died, police have stated. “Our thoughts are with her family, and all those involved in this tragic incident.

“We are supporting her family, and would ask for their privacy to be respected at this very difficult time.”

Police added a woman from the South Wales area was yesterday (November 5) arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter as part of the investigation.

She has been released under investigation.
